We had the good fortune of connecting with Tricia Auten and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tricia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
This is probably the single most impactful factor that has driven my business through all of the curves we have endured and concurred. In my opinion, balance could certainly be a subjective concept, one person’s ‘balance’ may not be another’s ideal ‘balance’. My balance consists of managing the company and raising a family, and health of course. When starting Pretty Hunter 10 years ago, it was a bit easier to manage the growth of the company and raising up 3 kids, as life marched on, the kids got busier, the balance became much more challenging. I choose to raise my young humans into well rounded young adults, the company took a bit of a back seat. However, now they are more independent and Pretty Hunter’s wheels are back in motion. Looking back I wouldn’t do it any other way. Balance needs to work for everyone.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have gotten to where I am by Risen and Hustlin’! I do not back down, and I do not give up. Without sounding like my head is in a cloud, I believe somewhat my direction has always been driven by fate, sprinkled with dedication and determination. Easy? Not even close! Which makes it that much more gratifying. No one appreciates something that comes to them easily, do they? I have overcome some challenges that literally almost caused me a nervous breakdown, but again, I rose above the challenges and hustled! Along the way I have learned to do business with others the way I want business done with me, integrity has a much underrated value. Although we always want our customers to feel PRETTY FIERCE when sporting our swag, I am proud to tell the world that we look after planet 🌎 by being a sustainable upcycler of once fired BULLETS, that we turn into beautiful jewelry!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh boy! Well number one I would book a fishing trip on our world famous Lake Saint Claire, eat in Detroit, lots to pick from down there. Probably try to catch a hockey game, because who doesn’t love a good hockey game! Then make our way to one of dealers of Pretty Hunter product that is a gun range to enjoy a round of flinging some lead! Afterwards I will commemorate their trip by saving their rounds and making a piece of jewelry for them to remember it by.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Try to keep it short, as I have so many people to be grateful for. I can best group them together as our amazing fans, customers and brand believers! I have met and made friends with som of the most dynamic women, thank you for living our message by wearing our designs. Our goal has been and always will be to make all wearers of our product feel Be-YOU-tiful N BOLD.
