Meet Trog | ARTIST

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trog and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TROG, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Because it was inside my head, I always wanted to draw stoned out crazy comix, something about that artwork and the iconic comic artists who created that, just clicked with something inside me.
So, it wasn’t so much like pursuing a creative career, as there was no career that catered to that, imaging being a kid sitting on a couch smoking weed in the 90’s going im going to be a famous weed artist ( take into account weed was at that time illegal everywhere around the world ) so i was getting ready for a career that actually didn’t exist yet.. at the start for years, I had to work other jobs then in my spare time would continue to draw my own comics and that evolved into its own. (looking back I wouldnt of wanted it any other way )

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
what sets me apart from others, their artworks don’t have the signature that says “TROG” underneath their artworks. Signatures are what sets careers apart, artists careers evolve over time and have different parts and periods of certain pieces, the one thing that ties all the together is the signature.
How did I get to where I am today professionally, – by never giving up, never doubting myself, chasing that dream, ive been turned down that many times, ive had agents and managers not want to represent me due to my heavy cannabis support, ive had my art stolen and reproduced in various countries around the world, ive had books on the shelf in Barnes and Nobel and Wallmart all thru the USA, Ive had my artwork appear in exhibitions in Australia, USA, Spain and Italy, Ive been denied access to USA and locked up and deported back to Australia, Ive had agents represent me in LA, ive lost agents, ive lost book deals, ive drawn for famous people, ive had famous people collect my artwork…. im not really sure how it happen im still that kid from the couch except im older and my couch is bigger. Was it easy, i suppose it was yes as i loved doing it, was it a short process, no, you need to dedicate your life to processes like this..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im not sure, the best times generally happen when they aren’t planned, they just happen, so lets go with that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When i was at art collage, my illustration teacher knew i wasn’t interested in the artists they were teaching about, and one day he bought in a book of Rick Griffins artwork… from the moment i looked thru the first few pages Rick became my favorite artist. I cant shout out my teachers name as i cant remember his name, but that day defiently was one of those days that put me onto a different path in life.
