We had the good fortune of connecting with Tru-L Mattapan’s Goldenboy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tru-L, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson that my music career has taught me is never give up on your dreams because hard work pays off you just have to trust the process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My cities always been big on hip-hop so growing up in the neighborhood of Mattapan and being around other local artist’s from the area, it was then that I decided I wanted to become an artist myself.

I hit the local music scene at 14 years old I started out by featuring on mixtapes from Boston Dj’s. With the backing of my mother, two years later in 2003, I released my first solo mixtape,”Mattapan Is The Streets” and then it was on from there.

My grand mother always said I was determined so I never stopped because I knew one day I’m going to make it big in the business I just needed the right people to hear me.

Since 2004 up until this year I released 7 more mixtapes, 3 group mixtapes, 8 unsigned talent compilations showcasing new artists, currently working on my 10th solo project which is my second album titled Pain Pride & Ego

So we’re talking 20 years that I been in the music industry it definitely wasn’t easy very challenging & took alot of sacrificing. Being that this is a hard business to win in even though we make it look easy after a while there was a time I wanted to quit but I kept on going to overcome all those challenges.

Through our my journey I have learned a lot of lessons one being that who you know can put you on and what you know will determine how long you stay on.

What I want the world to recognize me for the most is my talent with remembering my name as a legend that over came the trenches of where I came from becoming great creating generational wealth making other people’s dreams come true how mines did.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If my friend was visiting the area where would I take them well it depends on where I’m at because I travel alot. If they was visiting my hometown I would definitely bring them to Downtown Boston.

I would show them around the city, take them to go get some seafood, stop by the massage parlor, hit a few upscale night clubs seeking some beautiful women we may even check out a gentleman’s club.

I like to keep my frequency level high so I only surround myself with people that has great things going on in life so that’s who I would bring my best friend around that came to visit me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shout out to God himself for always blessing me, my mother, my daughter Za’riyah, my woman Kisha whose actually from Colorado as well, all my fans that’s been holding me down me from the very beginning, my hometown Boston, Massachusetts & my team Dipset.
