We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Dannenbring and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My day job is actually a Financial Advisor. I love many aspects about that job. However, now that I am co-authoring a book, a number of doors are opening that have allowed me to create again. I am 37 years old and my wife is graciously giving me the space to dream a little bit through this book endeavor. I recently started taking guitar lessons too alongside my oldest son. Some might call it a “mid-life crisis” but I am trying to wisely do some of the things I have always wanted to do without “quitting my day job.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I want the world to know about me or my story is that I value authenticity in others and I hope to encourage others by how I live my life. Authenticity is contagious and we’re all drawn to that type of characteristic when we see it. We desire it for ourselves and for those we care about but there is so much working against us. It is hopeful when we see it lived out because we think we can do it too. The bible says, “when we lose our life, then we will find it,” and I believe it is only possible through God’s grace.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love asking people that question too. I usually phrase it by saying, “In your hometown, would you tell me about a place I should visit?” I think we learn a lot about what people value that way and what had an impact on them. For me, in my hometown of Yankton, SD, I would take someone floating in a couple of tubes down the Missouri River. The experience is memorable and provides plenty of time to talk and not be distracted. Don’t forget your life jacket!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Behind a good man is an even better wife. I’ll let others discern the first part of that statement, but I will testify to having a wonderful wife. Ashley and I have known each other since the first grade and have been married for over ten years now. We have five children. Her faithfulness to our family does not go unnoticed and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her support, encouragement, accountability and friendship.

I wouldn’t be an “author” either if it wasn’t for my friend, Jeff Dillon. Jeff often helps put the right words to my thoughts and dreams and we make a good team that way. Jeff and I have many things in common too such as: we both have five children, we are grateful for the saving work of Jesus in our lives, we like sports, and we both went to beach schools initially out of high school despite our Mid-west roots.
