We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Holt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I personally don’t believe anything truly great happens that doesn’t involve risk. Taking risks have lead to the best results for me whether that be personal or business. The phrase “Great risk, great reward” stands true. I have always believed that people should do the things that scare them. Those types of things typically involve a good amount of risk. I always view risk as giving me two options. Option 1: I take the risk and I get the reward I wanted. Or option 2: I didn’t get the reward I wanted but these risks usually wield the best lessons. I can’t imagine where I’d be in my life and career if I didn’t take the risks I did. I know without a doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am now.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I used to be a trainer at a big corporate gym and decided that if I wanted to make true change and have complete freedom and what I was doing I would need to run my own business. That is where 212 Performance Gym came from. The idea was to have a more private gym that was more of a one stop shop for fitness and recovery and to have a place where people could come and have a family type supportive system at the gym. Wanted to be more than just a gym that people show up to the work out we wanted to be a special gym where people want to come work out and want to be there because they love being there.
It has not been easy as creating a successful smaller private gym has an array of challenges. It is not easy to start anything from the ground up especially something like a gym that has a very high overhead cost. There are always challenges such as when Covid happened, but the gym and our trainers and our members post strong and support each other and we came through on top and that is what I most proud about.
I want the world to know that 212 is something special. I want as many people as possible to experience what we have to offer and be a part of something that you can’t find at any other gym.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado has so much to offer at any point in time of the year so this would really depend on what time of the year my friend was visiting. We would most definitely have to go somewhere in the mountains such as Aspen or Breckenridge. The mountains in Colorado are so beautiful and have a ton of things to do such as skiing in the winter or hiking/going to a lake in the summer. If they wanted some nightlife we would definitely head to downtown Denver and find some cool lounges and restaurants to grab food and/or drinks. Some of the go twos would have to be Garden of the Gods and a concert at Red Rocks!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have always had an amazingly supportive family. They’ve stood by my side with all my decisions and have been there to help along the way since day 1. My hard work and dedication has been through years of watching my parents. They have always set the best example for me.
My girlfriend, Danielle, constantly supports me and pushes me to be a better man. Her patience and love drives me to be the best I can be.
