We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Bevard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I made cakes for friends and family for a few years prior to starting my business. While I had thought about making cakes for a living I never took that final step of quitting my day job. I worked at the post office and I sold my art on the weekends at art shows. Then one day my husband and I had our daughter and we decided that it was time to make the leap! My husband is such a supportive person and made me feel at ease and confident that I could make it happen.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always tried my hardest to produce the best product that my abilities at the time allow. I feel like every cake is my ‘’favorite’’ and that is great since that means I am still learning and growing at my art. I also love what I do, so that is a huge part of my success. I not only like decorating cakes, but I love baking and I love being a part of a couples special day! I started my company with the hopes of being a work at home mom and so I wanted to make sure that happened. I tried really hard to get my name out that first summer I started my company and I will be forever grateful to my clients that took a chance on an unknown person in a very competitive field.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a Colorado native and there are so many great things to do and see in Denver! I guess it would depend on who was coming to visit, but I love The Brown Palace! The atmosphere is like nothing else. The kids always love the aquarium and the zoo. The Museum of Nature and Science is always a cool stop and even the lakes around the city have some great fishing spots.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and my friends are all so supportive of anything that I decide to give a try!
