We had the good fortune of connecting with Wassem Moarsi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wassem, how does your business help the community?
We donate 10% of our profits to charities that feed the hunger and aid in environmental restoration. We plant a single tree every time we get a sale online. We donate our extra baked goods to the local homeless shelter, the bowery mission. Our facility sources renewable energy and love to tell people in the hopes that other will follow. We promote veganism—we spread the word on social media how veganism helps prevent climate change and point out the leading cause of pollution (the animal agriculture industry). We hire young students and interns, teach them everything we know about food safety and team work and encourage them to get food safety certificate. Most importantly we believe fresh, organic and sustainably sourced ingredients. We are strong believer in educated our consumers about what we put into our bodies. So we use clean ingredients and avoid chemicals and preservatives.
What should our readers know about your business?
Well, we’re not your average bakery, we are a diet restricted/ allergy friendly bakery wtih a focus on clean and healthy ingredients. No checmilcas, no preservative, no assembly lines. Our tag line is Real Food. Simple Ingredients. Since 1992. Thats right, since 1992 my fahter and his partner started this company in attempts to put healthier baked goods on NYC shelves. They started with Wheat-free and vegan products and really took off. He was the “business man” and she, the mad scientist in the kitchen. Only, after they split up the lack of creativity plummeted sales. then in 2008 the economy crashed and that nearly bottomed out the company. Soon after that my father bowed out into retirement with little value to the company. With little money and not many people hiring at the time, I jumped in head first with everything i got. Having learned the ins and outs growing up beside my father, i had fostered an appreciation that inspired a love for it. That, with my intimate knowledge of the sciences attained in my graduate education i soon realized it how to hone in the demands of the industry.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyone in my life. Mom and Dad, who have cultivated and nurtured my mind and body. My brother, who taught me the in and outs about sales, communication and who’s charisma has rubbed off on my quite well. My wife, she joined the business just a few years ago to help get me organized and teach me, the son of a baker, how to bake properly. My friends have always steered me in the right direction from marketing ideas to lending books like “the Dip”, “The One Thing” and “the brand gap”. My employees, their support and loyalty through our ups and downs over time.
And lets not forget God, I’ve only recently dove into a life of religion. But from what gather, the majority of religions share the same belief in keeping us morally just in our community, it helps us stay on the path of honesty and charitable and helpful to our fellow man/woman.
