We had the good fortune of connecting with Will LeMaire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As with any good business idea, it comes down to being able to efficiently and cost-effectively solving problems for other people. Since Capsule is an application that can be used for an astounding number of use cases, it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint a specific problem our application solves for our users. But in essence, Capsule is the perfect solution to sending messages with important content (called Capsules) that can be revealed at a specific time(s) in the future and/or a specified location on a map. There is a lot more to it and that it can do, but that is the basic premise behind Capsule.
The inception of Capsule came from my brother-in-law, Ben, who wanted a way to share great memories with loved ones based on a specified location. We were having such a great time during a family beach vacation that we wanted a way to share our memories with each other and other family members when they visit the same vacation spot. That idea quickly morphed into an ability to send both Location AND TIme-based messages (Capsules) to not only loved ones but to other Capsule users as well based on their location. These additional capabilities were encapsulated into a single, easy-to-use iOS application that allows our users to not only send “Capsules” that have interactive capabilities but also easily retrieve those Capsules whenever they want to view those memories again in the future.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Capsule is a grass-roots organization that strives to positively transform the way humans communicate with each other. We are excited about adding and enabling Time & Location based parameters to the messages we send back-and-forth to each other all day long, and provide a better way to share and retrieve memories. At Capsule, we think we are onto something Big and look forward to other’s catching on sharing that vision with us, and each other!
From my experience, it was not the conceptual then final system designing, moving through several iOS application developers before finding the right one, reworking major sections of the code, spending too much money, or gaining funding for the Capsule project that I found particularly difficult or frustrating. Instead, for me, the most difficult part of promoting the Capsule idea is trying to clearly articulate the many different ways that Capsule can improve the lives and communication between Capsule users and getting the public to adopt the Capsule experience. Our Capsule user-base is growing and loving the features the app has to offer and the Capsule team is looking forward to more and more people sharing the Capsule experience!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OMG – Capsule is absolutely perfect for this! This is what I would do to share all the best spots in Boulder, Colorado, which there are many! I would set up several Capsules and send them to my best friend before they arrived at the Denver airport. Lets say I set up 5 Capsules:
1) Denver International Airport
2) My house
3) Favorite coffee place
4) Secret spot – Moderate level hike in the foothills
5) Best Sushi in Boulder
Best friend’s experience:
1) As soon as my best friend turns their phone back on when they arrive at DIA, he will be notified of a new Capsule messages that says “Welcome to Colorado!” and is accompanied with videos and picture showing my excitement of my best friend coming to visit.
2) After the friend view’s the DIA message, they are prompted with a new message with the location of my house pinpointed on a map and the ability to turn on driving directions.
3) The next morning, my friend will receive a location-based Capsule when they leave my house, providing them with the location and name of the best coffee shop in Boulder (sorry, I can’t tell you which one:)!
4) After a satisfying coffee and scone, they open the Capsule called “Best kept secret hike in Boulder” where pictures describing the trailhead and landmarks along the hike are made available, along with driving directions to the parking spot.
5) It’s dinner time! But where to go? Don’t fret, open Capsule to find the “Best Sushi in Boulder” message and you are on your way to an amazing full-flavored experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is easy. Basically, everyone that has been supportive of the Capsule mission and clearly sees the vision and the amazing potential. Capsule has serious potential to positively transform the way in which we communicate and adds messaging parameters that cannot be found encapsulated within a single application, like Capsule.
There are so many great people that I would like to give a shoutout but here are some stand-out individuals that have really helped us promote the Capsule idea and brand….
