We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Will, what do you attribute your success to?

The most important factor of my brand is to advocate for those suffering a terminal disease called Huntington’s Disease. My mother and family suffer from this disease and it is my motivation to raise attention to HD. My goal is to be an advocate for the HD (Huntington’s Disease) community to raise funds, awareness, and one day find a cure.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I am most proud of my current position. As we all know, sometimes the art world can prove difficult to find a job in. I currently work as a Program Director for AVA Art Center, which has been impactful in my professional career, and artwork. It was difficult getting here as most of my life I had to be a caretaker for both of my parents. I overcame challenges by being consistent in job opportunities, school, and art opportunities. Some lessons I have learned along the way is to be diligent in everything you do. Be a hard worker and never give up especially when life challenges you to the extreme. I have learned to balance life, caretaking, and art in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I want the world to know about how Huntington’s Disease has affected me, my family, and many others lives, in order to help recognize these people and find a way to help, advocate, and support the HD community. My artwork is a reflection of HD and is the most important to me currently.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

First, I would like to show off my work place. We have an amazing gallery and studio area where we can create art such as painting, alternative firing such as raku firings, and wheel throwing. Down the road there are several fantastic eateries called The Coop, as well as Ranch and Roost, which serve local beef and chicken that are raised in the great state of Wyoming. I would also suggest a short road trip West to the Big Horns for some hiking or mountain biking. There are many outdoor adventures in town that we would do such as disc golf, and sports at a very nice multi-event rec center.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to recognize my mother (Maribel) who has been suffering from Huntington’s Disease for about 20 years. I also want to recognize the whole Huntington’s Disease population as there is no cure to this horrible disease. It is my goal to give credit to HD affected people to keep fighting and raising awareness. Without HD, my artwork would not be as strong and meaningful to me and the art world.
