We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuliya Rabinovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuliya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve worked as an associate dentist in many offices over the years. From some, you learn how to do things right. From others, you learn of what not to do. Then you figure out how you want to put that great knowledge to work and make it patient centered. Not business centered, not dental insurance centered, not latest fad centered, but specifically patient needs and desires centered. You nurse that idea until it’s ready to be born and Dental Muse was born when we discovered Castle Pines and just fell in love with the area.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a whole body-centered dentist. For many years, dentists were viewed as no more than tooth mechanics. Unfortunately some still feel that way even today. What many didn’t realize before is how great of an impact the mouth has on the health of the rest of the body and vice versa. It shouldn’t be just reactive dentistry, meaning someone comes in with a cavity, you drill it, fill it, and send a patient on his/her way. We absolutely do treat cavities, but as a symptom of a problem, not as a problem itself. It’s about figuring out what led to the problem in the first place and how do we prevent it from happening again. We want to be proactive in treatment, not just reactive. Many people take excellent care of their teeth yet discover they have cavities at every dental check up. Others continue breaking teeth even after they’re “fixed.” That’s very frustrating AND expensive. By taking very detailed medical, dental, and social history we oftentimes can get to the root cause of dental issues because it’s not always lack of flossing or a sweet tooth that wreak havoc. By the same token many systemic issues show up in the mouth and it’s important to recognize that because many people see their dentist more than they do their primary care physician. That’s why it’s imperative for all healthcare professionals to work together and not be blinded by the limited view of our specialties. My “whole-istic” approach to dental care came from watching my mom, a dentist herself, struggle with health issues that no one seemed to have answers to. Realizing that a human body is an intricate web of cause and effect where the cause may not be where one might expect to find it. It’s the same reason I started learning more about airway dentistry. My oldest daughter had some seemingly unrelated health issues that I later learned were related to her mouth. What an eye opening learning experience it was for this mom dentist! Helping people achieve greater health that starts with their mouth is something I’m very passionate about. I am determined to change people’s perspective about what a dentist can help them with…. one tooth and airway at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We moved to Colorado from New York City. One can say we’ve done the city thing in an arguably the best city in the world! That’s not why people come to Colorado. We fell in love with Colorado for its quiet beauty, serene views, spectacular sunsets, awe inspiring mountains, incredible nature and all the fun activities that come with it. We love you Denver! But that’s not where we take our visitors. Red Rocks Amphitheater stole our hearts the first time we climbed the seemingly never ending steps that lead to it. Cheyenne Zoo, at first glance, is a small and modest zoo in Colorado Springs, but don’t be fooled, it houses some of the most majestic animals. Skiing alone is what brings millions of people to our state. And the hikes that cater to all levels of fitness and the views snobs, our favorite being Castlewood Canyon State Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
