We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvette Maher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvette, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I am a firm believer that when you are seeking a job/career, you should pursue it with confidence and passion. Many people look at a job posting and immediately dismiss themselves from applying if the position requires more than the person can provide through education or experience.  If a degree is required, don’t simply take that as a “do not apply”. If the job is something you feel you are made for and you have a willingness to learn and work hard, go for it, and see what happens!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally,
I have the privilege of thanking the faithful donors and prayer partners who are making the vision of Every Home for Christ to carry Jesus to everyone, everywhere in every generation a reality. I travel throughout the southern states and listen to personal stories of how families have committed their prayers and generosity to reach the unreached for Jesus.
As a side hustle, since moving to sunny Florida, I invite friends to the beach for a “Sea-Batical” vision board retreat to dream and plan for their next chapter!
Throughout my career my core philosophy has been to “bloom where you’re planted.” Work with integrity and a willingness to do the job at hand, (whatever the title or tasks may be) by showing respect for others, giving it 100% and not always focusing on tomorrow’s possible promotions. This has been instrumental for my career. To be present for today’s results, not just tomorrow’s success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado is so rich with options, but a must for my visitors would be gathering with longtime friends at their homes around their familiar table or campfires. This is where relationships are cultivated. Since I’m a foodie, my itinerary will always be shared experiences that involve eating together. For me, the Broadmoor is a place of celebration as well as a place to heal from deep grief and I would love to share it with others. The beauty of walking around the lake, sitting at the fireplace outside, or dining at the Golden Bee is a must. I’d also include the off-the-beaten path local hangouts downtown. Just be adventurous and find them! A north end favorite that is sure to please is Atmosphere Gastropub. I bring everyone here just to grab a booth at happy hour, converse over chips and blue cheese (I call it crack and cheese) and welcome friends to the area. I consider all this exercise as well- I mean, getting in and out of the car counts right?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My professional “stepping stone” career has been highly impacted by so many mentors! Too many to count! I’ve learned life lessons from great leaders that have challenged me to stretch, dream and reach beyond what seemed possible. In the years at Focus on the Family, New Life Church, Dream Centers of Colorado Springs, Mops International (now the MomCo) and Every Home for Christ, the support has been profound. Because I did not have the formal “must have” degree in any of my roles, I welcomed the wisdom and disciplines from these leaders and friends who were excelling and saw something in me to train and pour into.
