Meet Megan Sutherland | Small business owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Sutherland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I would say my thought process behind starting my own business was really the fact that everything I do, I do for my daughter. as a single mom I realized very quickly how taxing it was for me to work full time. I knew there had to be a better way to provide for us long term.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started Iris Liv Swimwear with the over arching goal to finance a nonprofit, As a single mom I have been so blessed to have such an amazing support system and I quickly realized not everyone was so fortunate and I would really love to help change that very soon. People always ask me, “why swimwear?” and the answer is simple, I love the water and it has played a huge role in my upbringing. I am a California transplant so you could say I know swimsuits, I really just wanted to bring the swimwear quality and standard to Colorado. In a world of “Fast fashion” I really try to help educate local consumers, where you spend your dollar really matters. When you buy a swimsuit from Iris Liv Swimwear you are supporting a local small business owned by a single mom who orders Eco consciously and with a focus on authentic inclusion.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh that’s easy, The night would definitely revolve around food so I would for sure take them out Downtown Colorado Springs to Dos Santos, Coati, And Fat sullys because that’s where all the cool kids go. Next stop would be Breckenridge hands down to eat more food and enjoy the town and ski if you’re into that sort of thing. and lastly I would probably convince them to go Flyfishing with me at one of my favorite rivers, Deckers.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shout out goes to my parents for sure! My parents are both creative people so they really fostered an environment for me to go my own way, and always encouraging me to do whatever it was I wanted to do and not pushing me in any specific direction. I have always had their love and support. I would not be where I am today without them.
