We asked some of the city’s rising stars to reflect on what made a difference in their journey. We asked them to tell us about what they think the most important factor has been behind their success.
Yogi Herrera | Tattoo Artist/Business Owner
I opened in 2019. I’ve been tattooing in other people’s studios for nearly 30 years prior to that. Some very good studios with amazing artists, and some pretty fly by night, back alley shops. I wanted something different. Something somewhat unique for the industry, and something to call my own. I plan on this being my last house, so a place I can retire from and pass the legacy to somebody else who will continue my traditions. The most important factor in the success of my business is recovery. Sobriety. I am a recovered Alcoholic/Addict. And my studio and all of my staff are clean and sober. That in itself is a rarity in this industry. Read more>>
Randy Land | Architecture and Interior Design Photographer
My clients! I chose my clients very carefully by researching and reaching out to hand selected architects, designers and builders that have a unique and thoughtful approach to design. They care deeply about the work they produce and the projects they’re involved in. That passion shows through in everything. Once they become a client, I consider us partners. My whole purpose is to build the same passion for their projects and clients that they have, and to represent that through the photography I produce. I also chose clients that understand and value the critical role that photography plays in their success. These are beautiful people to work with and I invest great time and effort in supporting them. It just works! Read more>>
Scott Browning | Exercise Physiologist, Coach, Professional Trainer
Success is never guaranteed, and when I started my professional training and coaching career, there was an element of naivety; I’d never run my own company. However, I did understand how my coaches impacted me, both positively and negatively. I knew to draw on my experience as an athlete and import the lessons I learned from those who influenced and inspired me. Read more>>
Angela Vargas | Holistic Birth Doula, Mindset and Personal Development Mentor
Kindness. I think there’s multiple values that are very important to me but I would say there are two key ones both in my business and my life:
1. Consistency: Because I used to lack this one… A lot. And I realized at some point that, without it, I just can’t get anywhere in life! Simple as that! When things get a bit complicated or “hard”, motivation may go away but consistency is and will be key to success. Read more>>
Hayden Everhart | Creative Director and Content Creator
One of the most important factors behind my success is the support of my family.
My parents have always supported me in everything I do, whether it is sports or my creative career. My parents bought me my first 2 cameras, and have helped me heavily on the marketing side of things. They will often change their schedules around my work so that I can further my career, and I am forever grateful to them for that. Read more>>
Lindsey Kruger | Nonprofit Director
The most important factor behind the success of NIVAS is this: smart people with huge hearts will back you if your head and heart are in the right place. Not everyone feels connected to the well-being of folks in faraway places, but those who do are a force to be reckoned with. I’ve been lucky to have the most amazing group of experts, volunteers, and funders come together to develop practical solutions for families experiencing poverty and communities battling natural disasters. When it comes to the world’s injustices, if you can keep the ball rolling in an effective direction, good people will get behind you to help push. Read more>>
Allison Wagstaff | Nurse Practitioner, Owner
I’ve always believed that culture is the most important factor for a successful business. When hiring I am very particular in making sure that everyone selected is on board with the brand- natural, holistic, artistic and evidenced based, as well as having generally high EQ (emotional intelligence). I also personally train each injector because I want to make sure I know that clients can get great results from anyone they see! Read more>>
