Social impact: how does your business help the community or the world?

Do Over Dogs rescues dogs from death row at overcrowded animal shelters. We love helping animals in need, which in turn changes the lives of families that are able to adopt these loving 4 legged pooches. As a Licensed Social Worker and activist in Philadelphia, I have spent the last 20 years working with adolescents in the child welfare system, unaccompanied youth who crossed the border alone, survivors of domestic violence and the Latine immigrant community in Philadelphia. In 2014, after graduating from my MSW program, I was searching for a meaningful next job as I had already been in the field for ten years and Riot Alliance was born during this period of transition. 2016 Our business opened with an idea of good coffee, and a unique atmosphere in a historic town. We believed that when humanity gets the opportunity to experience the “unexpected”, you become part of an eco-system in a corner of the world. Time progressed and our team become intentional and the trajectory of our journey began to shift when Alex Gale started his journey with us. He began PT and threw his self into his role as one our barista’s, we compared his journey to Manitou, with his drive of people, outreach, creating a community not only on the inside of our walls , but beyond that. Art can communicate, without words or with words, experiences that are universal to all humans across cultures. Art can be a tiny bud pushing through a crack of oppression, reaching out for sunlight. It is a reminder that we’re all connected in this web of life and stirs feelings of our place within a greater whole, a reminder that we’re a part of this vast world full of beauty and mystery, made up of energy.
