We were fortunate to catch up with some brilliant artists, creatives and entrepreneurs from throughout the Houston area and they share the wisdom with us below.

I live by the motto “Look good, feel good, play good”. There’s just something about being out in nature doing the things you love, and feeling cute while doing it. It’s especially a struggle being a girl in the outdoor community, as most clothing lines are catered to fit men, and women are often left to less than half the amount of options. Plus, I swear when I have on an outfit I love, I snowboard better. I hike faster. You just feel better, and it travels through every movement you make. Read More>>

I always thought success was centered around money, but that is far from the truth. I define success as finding your purpose in life, being genuinely happy, and not caring what anyone else thinks. Success is about waking up every day with a sense of fulfillment and passion for what you do. It’s about making a positive impact on the lives of others and contributing to your community. Ultimately, success is about living a life that aligns with your values and brings you joy. Read More>>

I had this unfortunate reality of living in a completely negative headspace. For years, I was absolutely stuck in a cycle of self victimization, and living in lack. I think one of my biggest wins as a Colorado parent is striking the right balance between exposing my three daughters to the outdoors and letting them develop their own connection to nature—without pushing too hard. Living in Colorado, the mountains have always been a backdrop to our lives, and as a guidebook author and outdoor educator, I’ve spent countless hours on trails, often with my kids in tow. Being a parent has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. My children have become walking, living mirrors of myself. They became constant reminders of where I lacked, and where I fell short of being a positive role model in their lives and in the lives of others. This realization was a pivotal moment in my life. I decided I was going to unlearn everything and relearn with them. Read More>>

When I was starting my business, a lot of people told me to “Figure out what people wanted, and give them that. Go where the market is.” This is technically good advice, in terms of earning power and rapid growth, I suppose. Shaping ourselves in terms of what people want is a way to get business, but in the long run, it’s not sustainable and becomes soul crushing. Read More>>

I am at the point of my career where it’s important to me to give back and pay forward all of the help and kindness I received as I was learning. To this end, I am working with a few local non-profit organizations both in helping with operations and content. Similarly, I am working with small local businesses I believe in and want to see thrive. I also spend a lot of my time helping others develop their photography skills. I do this with in person coaching, teaching at conferences/workshops and remotely via webcasts. Read More>>
