There are so many factors that can play a role in determining our results, performance and ultimately our success, but some factors matter more than others. We asked folks what they felt was the most important factor driving their success.

Shelby Del Vecchio | Photographer

The most important factor behind my success has proven to be my innate attention to detail. I’m a perfectionist at heart, and although that trait comes with pros and cons, it has transformed the way I create and shoot photography. I analyze everything, whether it be uneven lighting on a backdrop to an unwanted crumb, a crooked prop, a speck of dust, you name it. Complacency is never a place I want to be, especially creatively, so I will always do whatever it takes to get the job done, and done well. Read more>>

The most important factor behind my success is my support team. I truly believe that behind every successful woman is a great support network. I have the most incredible fiancé that supports every dream or passion that I pursue. I have the best parents and sisters that push me to be the best version of myself every day and are my biggest cheerleaders. And I have the best friends who purchase from my Etsy shop, share my blog posts on their social media, and comment and engage in my posts. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. A lot of hard-work, sweat and tears goes into every blog post I write, picture I take, new product I launch or trip I plan and so to have a group of people around me that support that is priceless. The power of a High 5, the simple two-handed gesture informs how we do business every single day. A high five can be a show of support, appreciation, excitement, relief, or just plain friendliness. It’s a quick gesture, but it means something significant to both parties. It has an impact, and it can brighten a day for our employees and our customers. Making an impact through high fives has taught us that we are so much more than just a plumbing company. We get to see the positive effects our high five-driven business has on our team, our clients, our community, and the nonprofits we partner with through our charitable giving program, High 5 Cares. We know a high five can change someone’s day, and our team proves this time and again by living up to the High 5 Mission: “To come together as more than individuals to create a positive impact on our team, our clients, and our community, one High 5 at a time.” Read more>>

Michelle Hooper | Owner & Operator

I think one of the most important aspects of running a business is to allow it to create an identity that you know inside and out. I could only force so much of myself into Hello Coffee. As hard as it was, I needed to give it time to really show me who it was going to be. The shop has a unique personality, style, and attitude that could have only come about by stepping aside and allowing it to take shape on it’s own. As much as I am ingrained in the business (there will always be some of me peppered in here and there!) it also has a life of it’s own, and that’s good! Once that was established, we were able to really find our place in our community. Our neighborhood is quirky and special and we are honored to be a small piece of what makes it so wonderful. Things are never as you imagine in the beginning but getting to know who Hello Coffee is has been one of the greatest joys of this small business life! Read more>>

Alana Bates | Painter & Granny Crafter

I started painting as a release, a way to relax and escape the stresses of everyday life. I never expected to make a business out of it, I just enjoyed creating art. The fact that other people can find joy in my pieces enough to own them is my biggest success. Read more>>

Andy Arens | Artist

I think that the biggest factor to the success I have had with my art is the fact that I’ve stayed true to what I believe my message is with my art. Over the course of my career as an artist, my art has changed and evolved but it has always been true to who I am and I’d say it’s a pretty pure reflection of myself and what I feel is inside me. Art and being an artist I feel is sometimes a difficult thing to do because you have so many opinions and beliefs about what art “should” or “shouldn’t” be and you can get lost in what others are saying or thinking. But if you can find a way to be honest with yourself and a message that resonates with people, AND be comfortable with honest analysis of your work I believe you have a great recipe for success.
