We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Hooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think one of the most important aspects of running a business is to allow it to create an identity that you know inside and out. I could only force so much of myself into Hello Coffee. As hard as it was, I needed to give it time to really show me who it was going to be. The shop has a unique personality, style, and attitude that could have only come about by stepping aside and allowing it to take shape on it’s own. As much as I am ingrained in the business (there will always be some of me peppered in here and there!) it also has a life of it’s own, and that’s good! Once that was established, we were able to really find our place in our community. Our neighborhood is quirky and special and we are honored to be a small piece of what makes it so wonderful. Things are never as you imagine in the beginning but getting to know who Hello Coffee is has been one of the greatest joys of this small business life!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hello Coffee was born from a desire for something different. I wanted to create a space where flavors, ideas, and people that may seem a little “different” could come together and make something magical. Our motto of “who says coffee has to be so serious?” has shaped an attitude of creativity and joy. Coffee is one of the best parts of your day, so why shouldn’t you have a little fun with it?! We are always ready to take risks and find new ways to enhance your cuppa. We work really hard to forge a space in an industry that typically takes itself pretty seriously. What we do may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those that are looking for something a little different (or sometimes even weird) we are the place for you!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live and play in one of the most incredible places in the world! Red Rocks is a must see. Getting to set foot in a venue that is so unique and beautiful is an experience you will never forget. Denver also has so many amazing restaurants and bars to check out! But the thing that makes our area so much fun is the people. We are a city made up of so many stories from all kinds of fascinating people!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have the best team in the whole world! A staff that sees the big picture of what the business is doing and works hard to be a part of it while also loving each other so well is a rare gem that I am so lucky to have found. Additionally, the love and support from my family and this community has truly been what has kept us going. Hello would not be what it is without all the amazing people that make up our little coffee family. Even in business it takes a village, and I am so grateful for mine!
