We’ve always believed that forming a strategy is impossible until you’re clear on what your values and principles are. Without values and principles to guide you, making decisions can seem impossibly difficult. Given how important setting values and principles is to decision making we asked folks we admire to tell us about the values or principles that matter most to them.

For me, I value humanitarianism above anything else. In the world we live in you often see abuses of power, fights for policy change that benefit people that don’t really need help, and just a general selfishness or empathetic distance. I think somehow people forget that everyone is human and has a different walk of life and deserves respect and help. Even just talking to a houseless person or donating time or money to an organization you support is immensely important. Its really not hard to be nice, thoughtful, or respectful and I have a helluva time trying to understand why people don’t do these things. Just don’t be a selfish dick, it isn’t that hard. Kindness is one of the most meaningful, and mindful values to me. I think it’s so important to be kind to everyone, and I think it all starts with yourself. It’s hard to love or be kind to other people when you don’t love yourself, and also when you’ve been betrayed or hurt in the past, but I am so big on encouraging others to heal their pain or trauma because I know how much healing myself has changed and elevated my life. Being mindful and present when experiencing strangers and new people can be so life changing and beautiful if you allow it to be. I am so lucky to experience all of the people that I come across, and that I get to influence, because I think most of all what I want to show people is that you can be kind and beautiful and cool and everything else you want to be if you allow yourself. I don’t know when being unkind became trendy, but I think it has a lot to do with what we show each other, and if we allowed ourselves to open our hearts, and stop being afraid and holding ourselves from showing each other that we are allowed to love, we can better ourselves and better the world. Radical honesty is the most important value in my life. Without truth, we suffer in ways that we often do not even realize until we can no longer bear the burden of all the ways we bypass what is unapologetically authentic. I cannot offer a service to the world that holds any impact if I lack this quality. I certainly cannot be an effective role model if I am stifling what is true. We cannot repair conflicts, make changes, heal, love, or lead fulfilling lives if authenticity is not at the forefront. Read more>>

Ease is the guiding principle that I always try to support – both in my work with clients and my personal life. As a recovering perfectionist, I used to sweat the small stuff and glorify the struggle. Don’t get me wrong, I still value hard work and excellence but not if it costs your mental peace. Growing up in the middle of two brothers, I lived most of my life in my inner masculine. I played sports, got good grades and prided myself on being tough and independent. But my inability to slow down or ask for help actually caused a lot of health challenges for me in my 20s. I pushed myself too hard and struggled with stress, digestion and substances. It wasn’t until I discovered Ayurveda that I started to embrace my feminine side and a different approach. When I began to prioritize ease and mental peace over perfectionism, I started to feel a sense of freedom and clarity. I no longer agonize over decisions, analyzing every last detail. Read more>>
