We had the good fortune of connecting with Meirav Cohen-Cidor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meirav, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that being ok with everything breaking is necessary for growth. To the point that you might be the one breaking things down. And that is a risk. When everything is broken down to pieces, how will it come back together? will it be worse than what it was? Looking back in my life, I seek to find a balance between building and breaking what I built. When it happens, when I destroy what I build, it feels like there is no other choice. Looking back now I see how risky it is. But if I wouldn’t have done it, time and time again, I would never grow.
I started with a home studio in Jerusalem. I built a community and then I left. I moved to NYC where I was hoping to find mentorship and grow as a teacher. I had to start all over again. It worked. After a few years I was working for a successful studio in Brooklyn, managing it and building a name for myself. And then I left. i moved to Colorado where I knew I would be happier, surrounded by nature and quiet. And now I am here, in Boulder, building it all over again. Hoping to again create a community, to grow and evolve as a teacher.
My risk taking manifested in big dramatic changes, but I believe risk taking is a day to day action as a business owner. And I find comfort in knowing I have a vision, a bigger picture, that directs me and helps me when taking those risks.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a Pilates studio where I teach one on one sessions. It is my wish to enable my students to develop a positive relationship with their bodies. I believe that such a relationship creates the right conditions for helping your body become strong and flexible. This healthy relationship gives your daily life balance and lightness. A strong and flexible body becomes a vessel for your breath, to enable perfect breathing, creating the best physical conditions for a more relaxed, safer life.
Practicing Pilates is our preparation to deal with the demands daily life makes on our bodies, and to recover from modern life’s effect on us and our bodies.
To my students I promise to create a safe and comfortable place for you, one where you will never feel you are being tested or judged.
I got to this from being a non-mover for the first 20 years of my life, feeling distant from my body and it’s needs. I feel the value of moving everyday and love to share this joy with others. You don’t have to have a fancy branded outfit to move, you don’t have to be flexible, all you need is curiosity.
