We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, do you have a budget? how do you think about personal finances?
I do have a budget! I have spent the last several years adjusting and perfecting the way that I budget. I prefer to use a combination of Google Sheets and Mint.com for my personal budgeting. When it comes to my personal finances and how I make spending decisions, I like to carefully consider each purchase and make sure that it aligns with my personal values and most importantly my faith. Together with my husband, we like to first and foremost prioritize generosity, our family, saving for our future, eco-friendly options, and traveling.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a real estate agent as well as a faith-based money coach. I believe the main thing that sets my business apart from others out there, especially when it comes to money coaching, is that I take a biblical approach to it all. I help young professionals learn excellent money management skills that are rooted in the Gospel so they can free their money up to pursue their unique calling. My deepest desire is to help them live abundantly, give generously, and radically advance the kingdom of God. The way we view money truly affects our entire lives; the way we work, our relationships, and our free time. I help others learn that money is not inherently bad, but it is a tool that they must learn to use well. Over the years,
Growing my business has not been easy. I have gone through periods of hustling and have gotten close to burnout. I have had moments where I have felt like I’m just spinning my wheels and have wanted to quit. The thing that keeps me going is hearing from a past client about how our time together has impacted the trajectory of their finances and future. Or getting an email from someone after watching one of my YouTube videos or reading a blog post letting me know that they were inspired.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When our friends come to town, we enjoy taking them to a Rockies Game, a Red Rocks Concert, or for a stroll around Downtown Denver. Going to Larimer Square at night is always a must for Denver first-timers. My husband and I love ice cream, and we love to take our friends to some of our favorite ice cream spots including Little Man’s and Sweet Cow. A day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park is definitely on the top of the list as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had a lot of encouragement and support over the years and couldn’t do what I do today without it! I am extremely thankful to all those who have offered advice and a bit of mentorship through my entrepreneurship journey, but I’d love to give a special shoutout to my friend Jordan Raynor. Way before I began my business and before I had actually met him, I read one of Jordan’s first books, Called to Create. I always felt called to begin something new, but after reading his book, I knew that I had to do it. Years later, Jordan and I officially met and he has become a fantastic friend and mentor who is always available to answer my business questions and help lead me in a way that aligns with our faith. I am absolutely inspired by Jordan’s own entrepreneurial journey and his dedication to excellency as a way to glorify God. Thank you, Jordan!
