We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrissy Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chrissy, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
What an interesting question. I think often about this question as life is full of challenges that offer us the opportunity to face the challenge at hand and live with an outcome. The outcome isn’t always (and often not) what we wanted nor expected, so what to do when we are faced with the second challenge-what to do next? For me it’s a determination that has been made before so typically I KEEP GOING.

You see I learned long ago that to achieve you are going to take lumps and bumps. You are going to experience lows and a lot of ‘NO”s. Rejections are the majority not the majority, I think nowadays people have forgotten that somehow. But I believe because of the time and circumstances in which I grew up, I learned that resilience and being relentless are keys to success. It doesn’t mean that I have not let go of anything because I have. When I do it’s only after I have come to the understanding that it’s simply no longer within my means to achieve; and not an emotional decision.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It’s a new small start up business of personal training and coaching along with an apparel line with a concept /logo I created and have since trademarked.

I worked for 10 years as a mental health counselor after graduate school and earning a Master’s in Education but still always cared about fitness. Now that I am able to have a choice as to what I can do I choose this.

I have always been into fitness as my parents were into health and fitness. My father was a track star and we were encouraged to be active and fit, play sports and lift weights for as long as I can remember.

\Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver is a quirky place. It’s a little disjointed in that is has been growing so fast that it can’t keep up. I would take my friend to a few local places to eat along with a visit to the Denver Botanical Gardens which are a delight. A stop by the Red Rocks Amphitheater is a must a well on the way west.

Then head straight west to where I live towards the Rockies!! Past the Great Continental Divide to see the Bison 5 min from my house and then onto my house for a quick coffee and hopefully a chance to see the huge herds of elk that like to lounge in our back yard 🙂

Then onto any of the other beautiful places in Colorado!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents and brother have been a huge influence in my life in regards to health and fitness as long as I can remember and before I remember it was popular. I’m grateful for Kung Fu theatre for sparking my interest in marital arts that led me to train martial arts and obtain black belts in Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu!

My husband has always been a great supporter of mine. I think its also important to surround oneself with wonderful supportive friends, and trainers, and mentors.
