We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Salley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Integrity. This is honestly one of the key factors I try my best to uphold with my work. From completing a project, having a face to face conversation, or even sending an email, I want those I come in contact with to understand and see who I truly am. It is to easy to hide behind a social media persona, I want to change that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For me some of the best videos I have made are those that bend the viewer’s mind a bit. I think something that sets me apart from other artists is being able to create an unexpected visual out of an ordinary situation. The techniques I’ve learned are all thanks to countless YouTube videos and lots of practice. Part of trying something new is failing and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. Storytelling through visual fx isn’t just a skill to learn, it is like a second nature that you have to grow and develop. Honestly if I can do it, I know for a fact that you can too. I was just a kid who liked making silly effects for videos and now I get to edit and film for top creators that reach millions of people.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, so I’m in Nashville right now and what isn’t there to do. We’d go to the gulch near downtown and find an awesome burger place to eat at, and then of course we would have to go to the bridge that has the view of the city skyline and get some epic photos there. Later in the week we would go to an old Airport that is now a park to fly the drones. And most importantly we would need to hit up Hattie B’s for some amazing Nashville wings.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and family without a doubt. They have all supported me from the very beggining in so many different ways! I also want to thank Raul Calderon for giving me a shot all the years ago.
