We had the good fortune of connecting with Trey McMillan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trey, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Charleston, SC. I was born and raised in the same waters in which I make a living now. My grandparents on both my mom and dads side of the family were also Charleston natives so I was taught a lot about the water and how it is a grocery store if you know when and how to look for certain things certain times of the year.

I learned a lot from my parents that would transfer over to life, but I learned A LOT from my grandparents (my Grandfather PAPA in particular) about things that were fun as a child (like crabbing, fishing, picking oysters, etc..) that would later transfer over in life and set the foundation of my venture.

I 100% give credit to my family and wife for giving me the life lesions and support to have the courage to quit my past carrier and start my own business. Since then it has taken a village to make what Lowcountry Oyster Company has become today.

What should our readers know about your business?
We hand raise single oysters in the ACE Basin just south of Charleston SC. Our signature “Lowcountry Cups” are well accepted by restaurants and oyster lovers through the southeast and nation wide. We are going to continue our progress to become the representation of the southern oyster.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Deja My parents
The amazing team of people we have the opportunity to work along side with everyday.
