We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Monagas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karla, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
It has entirely fully changed!
When I begin my entrepreneurship journey, I had one child that was already in school full-time, giving me the time to invest in my education and obtain my new licensing. From there my desire to be a business owner grew deeper, and that began the beginning of a healthy work And life balance. Since then however, I have been blessed with two more children and the opportunity to fulfill my dreams of owning my own business; which has completely altered my work life balance! Altered though, not impaired. I’ve had to learn how to rebalance the “work life balance”; keeping my priorities in order and sometimes regaining strength to stay disciplined. Evolving everyday as a mother, a woman, a partner, and a business owner. And as everything grows around me specially my business and my family, I adapt and reprioritizes, managing my time accordingly to do my best at it all.
What should our readers know about your business?
I would love to share more about my business. I own a spa, where I specialize in permanent makeup, facial treatments, waxing hair removal, lash extension, and makeup applications. What sets me apart is how ethically I run my practice, my product knowledge, education and experience. Getting to where I am today has had it’s fair share of adversity not to mention a whole pandemic, but my perseverance and determination is fierce! Thanks to God I have overcame and learned from any and all challenges with grace! My biggest lesson has been to accept those failures/challenges as part of the process; learn from them and grow, staying determined to my business plan and goals; not giving up on the future success of my business without giving it my all! What I would like the world to take from my story, is to not give up on your dreams. Recognize your potential and begin your pursuit of happiness!! No matter what crossroads you are at, It’s never too late, and you are never too old!! YOU GOT THIS, TRUST YOUR PURPOSE.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question. I am nature lover and Colorful Colorado gives some beautiful scenic adventures. If my best friend was visiting I would definitely plan a spa day at my spa and make sure my friend’s skin is looking right! Then…Have some great catching up conversations during some hikes in boulder.
Hot springs in Pagosa springs.
And amusement park, depending if we want to road trip or not it could be at iron mountain or more local!
Talking local… Im Dominican so of course if it’s baseball season we catching a ball game at Coors field!
Maybe a little dancing downtown,
and a Barbecue with my family!!
I’d be the best trip of their lives.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God does primarily; my testimony is deep and the Lord has had mercy on me! And secondly, My Partner! He deserves credit for my accomplishments too! He came back into my life At the worst crossroads of my life. A moment where weakness deceived me and I was struggling with an overwhelming feeling of failure; Now I understand clearly, that failure is part of success. But at that time I didn’t see it that way and yet my partner saw my potential, when I though I didn’t have any left. He came back into my life with so much gratitude to have me (though I didn’t feel worthy, he reminded me of my worth)! That set off a new found strength and confidence, exactly what I needed to pursue my dreams and fulfill my purpose. He has been my biggest supporter. He’s believed in my vision and has helped me bring to life every step of the way. {[ I’m forever grateful for him, and just want to say Thank you, Because I know he will be reading this]}. Thirdly, my family; needless to say, but their love and support means the world to me, and it keeps me going. God is good.
