We had the good fortune of connecting with Bev Marsh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bev, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I was in my 20s and 30s, I wasn’t a big risk taker. I was a single mom and working in corporate human resources, so I needed steady income and insurance and reliability. Every morning, 5 days a week I would get up for work, get my little one up and ready for daycare, out the door by 7am to drop her off to daycare by 7:30am and to work by 8am. This was what I did all year long (even in the Summertime) with only a few days off here and there. By the time my daughter was a sophomore in Highschool I didn’t love HR anymore and quite frankly I got tired of firing people for a living. So, what did I do when I was 45 years old? I retired from HR and passed my real estate exam and became a full-time Real Estate Agent. I took a huge risk doing that and I have never looked back.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Realtor with an extraordinary brokerage called West + Main Homes. I am also a mentor at West + Main and train new agents as they join our brokerage. When I became a Real Estate Agent in 2018, I got a lot of strange looks. I gave up my Cush corporate job, great benefits, amazing stock options and matching 401 (k) to be my own boss. I only get a paycheck now when I sell a house. That was a huge change from what I was used to. It was hard. There is a reason why 90% of agents quit after 2 years. You go through so many ups and downs, you second guess yourself…and sure at the end of the day I could always go back to HR, but that was not an option. Failure was not an option for me. Here I am 5 years later…. making a living selling Real Estate!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Southlands is always a favorite, they have a great summer concert series. I also live in an amazing community called Southshore and we have many trails and walking paths. You can scoot around the 8-mile loop at the Aurora Reservoir too. I love to also hit up the Parker Farmers Market in the Summertime (it’s just a 12-minute trip the back way) to Parker. But honestly my favorite place to be with friends is on my back porch…sipping cocktails, listening to the stream flow behind us and just being still.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Boyfriend (Randy) and Kiddos for sure. Boyfriend always supported me and told me to just do it! Kiddos kept me going every day (I have a 20-year-old daughter and a 22-year-old bonus son)
