We had the good fortune of connecting with Kami Welch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kami, how do you think about risk?
With risk, comes reward. I value the idea of innovating and challenging systems by taking well-calculated risks. In order to mitigate the obstacles that come with risk-taking, I utilize a data-informed approach and build a dream team of stakeholders to help influence positive outcomes. This approach has served me well as others have challenged my thinking and helped me navigate missteps before they happen.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been lucky enough to work in the Chamber industry for nearly 13 years and it is truly the most incredible career. During my time in the industry, I have had the unique opportunity to monitor and track industry and business trends and develop meaningful solutions to ensure that my community thrives. This means that we need to challenge current systems around talent, housing, childcare, etc. through the lens of an “economic imperative”. By convening a cross-section of key community and business leaders we develop solutions that drive real change. This work is not easy, it requires grit, focus, and leadership. There are definitely days when I look in the mirror and ask WHY I am doing this, but then quickly remember “if not us, then who?”. I live by the Gandhi quote, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, of course, the first stop would be Arvada! We have such an amazing community with world-class restaurants, art, entertainment, and amazing people. A stop in Olde Town Arvada to shop and dine is a must and then a show at the Arvada Center. Throughout the community, we have incredible small businesses (breweries, distilleries, coffee shops, retail stores, etc). You seriously can’t go wrong!

We always love to take out-of-towners to Estes Park for a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park and a glass of wine on the porch of the Stanley hotel. It is a perfect Colorado day!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I could write a novel on this! I am where I am today because I have been lucky enough to have incredible mentors, friends, and co-workers who challenged and inspired me. But, there is one big shoutout…my husband. I am thriving today, because he truly is an equal partner in our home, with our kids, and in life. He has always encouraged me and reminded me that I can do anything and deserve everything. He is truly the best!
