We had the good fortune of connecting with Cam Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cam, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorite quotes is “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”. I think this probably goes though my head at least once a day either professionally or in my personal life. I have a very demanding job and active personal life. Learn from previous experiences and try to grow from them and hopefully do it better, faster, safer, or just have more fun.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a self employed contractor for nearly 25 yrs. I take a lot of pride in the services I provide as a company and helping people realize their dreams and goals for their home. I provide many services as a company from new builds, remodeling, design, owner rep. Consulting, property management and more. The construction business is not for the faint of heart. It’s a stressfull and demanding industry, it has not been easy but has been rewarding. As far as dealing w/ obstacles that occur daily “Work smart”, draw from your past experiences and take pride in the work you are doing, that’s all you can do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends call and want to visit or hang out they know we are heading for the hills and it doesn’t matter what time of year it is. Outdoors is my happy place and I’m lucky enough to have friends who feel the same or will tolerate it, haha. I wouldn’t say I have a favorite spot, Colorado has to many to choose from.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For sure mentorship. It’s not always easy to find in this industry but I have been lucky enough to have 2 in my career and they are both named Mark, haha. The first is Mark Arnold, Owner of New West Builders. I was lucky enough to land a job w/ Mark in my early 20’s in Steamboat Springs, CO. Mark was very patient and motivated to help me learn my chosen trade. Not only learn but teach me standards for quality that few others have. Funny story about Mark, I was learning finish carpentry w/ him and had to coupe in baseboard in a room. I spent along time learning and doing this, I finally get done and Mark walks up the stairs “Are ya done?” “Yup! Air tight!” Mark reply‘s “Air tight is good, but water tight is better!” I kinda have lived by that my whole career and it’s served me well. The other is Mark Green who was a Contractor in Denver. Mark too has a high standard of craftsmanship but has been more of mentor as far a personal growth. Mark is always there professionally when I hit a road block or just need to bounce solutions to a problem off to someone. But he has taught me more about being a good person and the legacy we leave as a craftsman, business and as a person.
