We had the good fortune of connecting with Brita LaTona and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brita, how does your business help the community?
I see the social impact of my two main areas of interest as a working intention to inspire both individual and collective healing. I’m committed to this work as a Clinical Herbalist and Eco-Wellness Practitioner, as well as in my work as an artist. Through my work as a Clinical Herbalist I provide one-on-one Wellness Consultations, and I have also taught on around 45 topics in herbalism and holistic health. In 2020 I completed a certification course in Ecotherapy which was inspiring to begin facilitating deeper nature-directed workshops in the outdoor setting, up in the mountains. After being in the holistic field for a number of years, I have to say that it is very encouraging to see all of the ways that people are beginning to incorporate the power of nature and herbal medicine into their daily lives. In the art world, I’m continually committed to sharing art that brings people back to a sense of their true nature that (hopefully!) inspires us to contemplate our innate interconnection with plants, animals, and the natural world. It’s my mission to create art that illustrates the ways that we need to awaken to our role as stewards of this beautiful planet!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Creating art has been a meditative experience for me. I grew up in the foothills of Colorado and nature has been my sanctuary. Over the years I was inspired by the symbolism and mythology around animals in many cultures. Over the past six years I began working with this inspiration. Through my art I’m interested in getting to the heart of the role that nature and animals play in collective healing. It’s important to me to get people to ask themselves how we can re-find our purpose and sense of connection, by reawakening to ancient parts of ourselves that nature and animals mirror back to us.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado is an amazing spot for nature lovers and the arts! For many years my family had a cabin in the Poudre Canyon (outside of Fort Collins), and I love hiking on trails like Young Gulch or American Lakes Trail in the canyon! As far as the arts, I love being a part of the artwalk on First Fridays of every month in Fort Collins, and supporting awesome art hubs like Wolverine Publick House, and the Lyric Cinema Cafe!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In the herbal and holistic world, I’ve worked at Golden Poppy Herbal Apothecary in Fort Collins for 9 years! I am so grateful for the incredible opportunities it has afforded me professionally. I am also so grateful for the tight-knit community of inspiring women who lift each other up and constantly support each other in this space.
In the art world, The Petrichor Art Collective has been a huge influence for me in providing an opportunity to share my art consistently and to a wider audience in the community. The Petrichor Art Collective is a growing collective of artists in Fort Collins that feature artists at four different venues every First Friday for the Artwalk in downtown Fort Collins.
