We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Radashaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing that I feel outsiders are unaware of, is the “behind the scenes”. Many people think you click a button and throw a filter on a photo and that’s that. However being a photographer and having a business is so much more than that.

Many photographers do everything on their own. This includes advertising, communicating with prospective and contracted clients, designing and updating websites and social media platforms. Many of us have session guidebooks that we create and shot lists to review, that is unique to each session or wedding. That doesn’t even include the session itself.

We are constantly changing our settings, zooms and angles. We have to be proficient at time management, and also keep a mental track of poses. Once the session is over we have to sort through hundreds or thousands of images and edit them. After that we can apply an edit to all the images but it is not a one size fits all. It is a baseline, and we have to go in and adjust all the technicalities of each image and fix the flyaways, pimples, etc.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was Active Duty in the Army when I started my photography journey. I strived to be a budget friendly photographer. I wanted to provide couples with quality wedding images at an affordable price. In addition this was meant to just be some extra money to help pay for my own wedding. I never intended or expected for this journey to have grown as much as it has. However, I am so grateful that it did, as I have such a love and passion for being behind the lens, and capturing life’s special moments. I have increased my pricing since I initially started. This is due to the fact my quality of work has improved, and I have invested in better equipment.

I do want to note, that even though I never intended for this to grow like it has, this journey has not been easy. I have had many trials and errors, and learning experiences as well. There were some days that were stressful, and I felt overwhelmed. When I was in these situations, I would confide in my husband and other photographers. Many of the times these things turned into learning experiences and that’s okay! I think it has made me better along the way. A few of the lessons that I have learned, is to photograph everything at a wedding, under promise, overdeliver, and to check the weather and Google Earth your destination! You want to make sure you are comfortable, have protective gear for your equipment and make sure your vehicle is appropriate for where you are going! Even with four wheel drive I almost got stuck on a remote dirt road in the mountains!

What I want the world to know about me, is that I always strive to deliver quality images. I understand that these will be something to peruse when you are older, or with your kids and grand kids. I take my time to make sure that they are exactly what you had envisioned, because I understand their importance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here in Colorado, there is so many great things to see and do! For the adventurous days, heading to lookout mountain in Golden, Red Rocks park in Morrison, Mt Falcon in Morrison, Boreas Pass road near Breckinridge and Rocky Mountain National Park are some of my favorite spots!

I love to visit Estes Park to see the Elk, and take a ghost tour of The Stanley Hotel!

My favorite places to eat is the original Beau Jo’s in Idaho Springs, Los Dos Potrillos in Parker, Penelope’s in Estes Park, Downstairs at Eric’s in Breckinridge and any of the Cheba Hut locations!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want dedicate my shout out to a few people who have helped me in my life.

First, I want to mention my Dad, Frank Stackhouse. He raised me as a single dad since I was about 8 or 9 years old. I remember, our days would start at 6 am, and end around 10 pm. My dad worked many hours, in order to afford a life for us. This provided me with a hardworking role model, and set the standard for me to be a hardworking adult when I grew up. He supported me, and taught me basically everything I know. He truly molded me into the woman that I am. Thank you for everything Dad, I love you!

The second person I want to give credit and recognition to, is my Grandma Mary. Since my Dad worked a lot, she was the one who always took me to the doctor, dentist, extra curricular activities, and was the one to drop me off and pick me up from school. She unfortunately passed away 17 days before my 17th birthday. She will forever remain in my heart, and I will be forever grateful for all she had ever done for me.

The last person I want to recognize is my husband George. Throughout all that we have been through, he continuously supports and encourages me. I actually started this journey when he and I started planning our wedding. I literally wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him. Thank you for everything George. I love you!
