Meet Carol Stevens

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The STREETLIGHT PROJECT, inspired by my book in process The Streetlights & People of the World, The Lights That Unite Us, is being created to remind people that we are more connected than divided. Through storytelling, poetry, art, and community engagement, the project shines a light on the everyday moments that unite humanity — children laughing in parks, strangers holding doors open, families sharing conversations, and communities gathering under the same sky.
Inspired by the message “We are all connected, children of one light,” the project encourages compassion, empathy, and understanding across every culture, language, age, and background. It highlights the beauty in ordinary human experiences and reminds people that small acts of kindness — a smile, a helping hand, a moment of understanding — can cross every borderline and create meaningful change.
The STREETLIGHT PROJECT promotes inclusion, hope, mental wellness, and community healing by encouraging people to truly see one another. Much like the poem’s imagery of “beautiful stories on the bricks saying, I see you,” the project gives voice to people whose stories deserve to be heard and valued.
At its core, the mission is simple but powerful: to inspire people to love each other more deeply, erase the lines that divide us, and recognize that every person carries a light capable of illuminating the world. Through literature, creative expression, and human connection, the project aims to build stronger, more compassionate communities rooted in love, unity, and shared humanity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Over the past six months, my journey with the STREETLIGHT PROJECT to create this book The Streetlights of the World, The Lights That Unite Us has transformed my life in ways I never could have imagined. I traveled through 31 cities across 16 countries, reached all 7 continents, learned to say “thank you” in seven different languages, and built friendships with people from more than 42 countries. I shared meals with billionaires and with the homeless, spoke with people of every faith and profession, prayed to the one true God in both mosques and temples, and immersed myself in cultures, customs, and communities completely different from my own. Along the way, I learned the exchange rates of 11 currencies, but more importantly, I learned the true value of human connection. I discovered what it feels like to be humbled as a foreigner and then embraced as a friend. This journey taught me to release fear, trust God fully, and open my heart to the world. I left a piece of myself in every country I visited, and in return, those places filled my heart with love, kindness, and unforgettable memories. I will never be the same again because this experience revealed one undeniable truth to me: we are all connected, children of God — so just love each other.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver has a special place in my heart because Colorado is my home state, and Denver is a beautiful place to experience the energy, creativity, and connection of city life. One of my personal favorite experiences is visiting Union Station, where the historic architecture, restaurants, and atmosphere make it feel like the heart of the city. For sports fans, I highly recommend seeing the excitement at Empower Field at Mile High, home of the Denver Broncos, or catching a game at Coors Field to experience the spirit of the Colorado Rockies downtown. If you’re traveling with family or simply want to have fun, I always suggest spending time at Denver Zoo, Water World, Elitch Gardens, and Downtown Aquarium because they truly capture the playful side of Denver. What I love most, though, is exploring the downtown art studios and murals throughout the city, especially in the RiNo Arts District, where creativity and self-expression bring the streets to life. Denver feels like a place where different people, cultures, and experiences come together naturally — and that sense of connection is what makes the city unforgettable to me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To everyone who has supported, encouraged, believed in, and shared love with the STREETLIGHT PROJECT — thank you.
What began as a vision inspired by The Streetlights & People of the World, The Lights That Unite Us has grown into something far greater because of the kindness, compassion, and humanity of people around the world. Every word of encouragement, every conversation, every shared story, every prayer, every helping hand, and every act of support has helped keep this light shining brighter.
This project was created to remind us that we are all connected — children of one light — no matter our language, background, struggles, or differences. Your support has proven that message to be true. You have shown that love still exists in abundance, that kindness still matters, and that small lights joined together can illuminate even the darkest places.
Thank you for believing in a message of unity, hope, empathy, and human connection. Thank you for helping amplify voices, inspire healing, and encourage people to see one another with compassion. Thank you for standing beside this mission to erase the lines that divide us and replace them with understanding and love.
The STREETLIGHT PROJECT belongs to every person who has shared their heart with it. This light is ours together.
May we continue to hold on to hope, hold on to love, and remember that even the smallest act of kindness can reach across every borderline.
With endless gratitude and love,
The STREETLIGHT PROJECT
