We had the good fortune of connecting with yoselin cisneros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi yoselin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started off as a make-up artist, and as my clientele grew I noticed the popularity of false lashes, more and more clients were requesting them. back then it was more typical to. buy genetic lashes at the drug store. I was providing them with genetic types of lashes at the time. I started wearing custom lashes myself and started getting compliments on my makeup and I realize it was my lashes that completed my look, right then and there is when I realized what a great opportunity to start my own business of providing my clients custom mink lashes.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
as a child I used be a traditional folkloric dancer in Mexico which required full colorful face of makeup for every performance, my mom studied cosmetology, she would always do my makeup for my performance and that’s where my inspiration first started, so fast forward to 20 years old I decided to take a lead of faith I moved to California to pursue my passion of makeup. I attended Ruby Makeup Academy and received a certification as a Professional Makeup Artist.

I moved back to Denver to start working as a Professional Makeup Artist at 20 years old. i started charging my clients $30 for a full face of makeup. it was not easy at the beginning because I was investing every cent that I got into expensive products to provide my clients with quality and that’s what made me stand out from the crowd. fast forward to 11 years i am one of the top makeup artist in Denver.
one of my first challenges was becoming a first time mom, breastfeeding, late nights, and overall getting to know my babies wants and needs. my pregnancy took me by surprise and I had to re arrange and manage by bookings to accommodate my new baby and postpartum,

-another of my biggest challenges was when my business went down tremendously through the pandemic, the way I supported myself thoughout that time was by giving my online business 150% my time and energy and I started adding more inventory to my online store, sells were up the roof! which compensated not being able to do makeup.

-another challenge I currently face is support my daughters as a widowed and single mom.
– a small setback is that I pride myself in makeup and most clients prefer a combination of hair & makeup. so therefore I have been turned down by clients.

I pride myself on my reliability and professionalism because people hire me for very special events of their lives and it fills my heart to be able to make them feel beautiful on their special day.

-along the way I’ve learned from my mistakes by being so flexible to my clients and always trying to accommodate them In their best interest. but some of them failed to show up, cancel last minute, and my mistake was to give them the benefit of the doubt and not charge a security deposit, and therefore that caused me to turn down other clients and events.

I want people to know about my story as a DACA recipient, that never stoped me from pursuing my dreams, and working hard towards the life I always wanted for myself and my daughters. anything is possible with a passion for what you do, I wake up everyday and do what I love and that fulfills my heart with joy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love tacos! so the first stop for this adventure would be my favorite taco stand called La Yaquesita Sonora style tacos on federal blvd, drive around downtown and grab an ice cream at Little man ice cream. for brunch my favorite place is My neighbor Felix, on Sunday morning we can head out to red rock amphetheather for a little workout with a view and on the way back to town stop at the mother Cabrini shrine. coors light brewery is always fun for tourist, Glenwood springs is always a must go, Breckenridge is one of my favorite places to visit! boulder Dushanbe teahouse is always on my go to list to take friends and family its beautiful! she can’t leave before experiencing the Denver night life! the latin community has grown so much over the decade, there is a diversity of latin clubs emerging, one of my favorites is Lime located downtown Denver.
