We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessie Milavitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessie, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“There is only love” has been my guiding words that last few months. I heard it in a meditation I had where I was talking to the essence of my dad, who had passed a few weeks prior. Love is why we are here, love is what we are made of, and love is what we must live by. What are we doing if it isn’t for the sake of love and peace?

I sculpt and woodwork to make tools to help facilitate love and peace in the home. To bring lightness always, to sooth, and to show that you can feel good. That is what it is all about.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s all about love and peace, really hippy-dippy. I get ideas when I meditate, when I am driving through the country and see the dry grass dance at the base of hill, when I wake up in the bed of my truck surround by colorful rock canyons, when an eagle dips beside me, when a trio of horses moving in unison. I am proud to make work that brings these emotions into somebody’s home.

I hit the ground running when I started Sunshine Canyon Furniture Company in 2019. Running to the point where I wasn’t doing much of the living that inspires the work. So when I moved back to Colorado, the pace slowed and time slipped away. I have spent the past few years changing how I approach life and therefore, how I approach my business. I may not have the most aggressive business, but I am building one where the way it operates reflect the values of the tangible pieces it produces. Health, happiness, and bliss are what we all need.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, we would obviously hit The Village Coffee Shop for breakfast. I have been going there my whole life, best hashbrowns I ever had!! If it is summer, we could go on a hike or mountain bike ride. If it is winter, we could go up to Eldora for a few hours. If they don’t care for sports, we could go wheelin’, maybe even camp the night somewhere above town. I do that a lot for fun, it’s easy and very chill, plus nothing better than sleeping under the stars. It’s Boulder, so the main thing to do is be outside. Then we could go back to my house and drink beers and make a delicious meal. I like to cook and just moved so am pretty into hanging out at my house right now. Or we would go out to Efrain’s for supper because that is where I always eat. Nothing to crazy to be honest. It’s kind of funny when you live in your hometown, because you don’t really do the new things or go out too much.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is so essential to getting me where I am today.

My husband and I moved back to our hometown 3 years ago, and while I initially took a break from Sunshine Canyon Furniture Company after the move, being home has given me the privilege to do my businesses slowly and naturally. My husband has always encouraged me to pursue SCFC, giving me the support to go for it and always hearing out my ideas. He teaches me patience and to let go of worry. He takes all my photos and helps me with the computer things.

My mom and dad, for raising me to love art and follow dreams. Teaching me to ski, love music, and the fresh mountain air. They taught me to shred the gnar, to drive a car, to cook, to clean, to have fun. I thank my lucky stars I moved back when I did and have gotten to spend so much time with them these last few years. The bliss of cold winter day, clear blue skies, and riding a chairlift with them and my brother by my side.

My in-laws, who so generously let me woodwork out of their garage these past few years. My mother-in-law for all our mornings we spent working out and chit-chatting. She always gives me advice, business savvy, stylish, and smart! My father-in-law for getting me into meditation. Meditation is a really important aspect of my work and meanings. Without meditation every morning, who knows where this lil biz would be!
