We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk can be a tricky one for a lot of people. They way I look at it, you’ll never know the precise, absolutely, positively-correct moment to take a risk. So why wait? Take the risk. When you accept that failure is always a possibility in everything you do or in any choice you make – risky or not – it’s a lot easier to take the plunge.

I’ve moved around quite a bit chasing dreams and trying to sort out what the next step is and how to take it. If taking risks has taught me anything, it’s that you must stay nimble and ready to pivot and to change direction quickly. Always find the silver lining, because there will always be one. There is always something to be learned from failures, just as there is from successes.

To succeed in anything requires a willingness to fail. It’s not a matter of if you are going to fail, but rather a matter of when are you going to fail. Failure is OK – it’s part of the process. Learning to accept that has helped me grow immensely as an artist.

It’s OK to be afraid of risk, but overcoming that fear is the only way to achieve something that you want. Be bold and take that risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Most of my work up until this point has been related to nature in some capacity. My ticket into the creative world was my previous roles in the outdoor industry, with most of that being in the fly fishing community.

However, my interest is shifting from the places we travel, to the people that travel to those and places and why they choose to go there. People and the decisions we make and why we make them are going to be the main theme of most of my work moving forward. I am excited to begin sharing some of the projects I’ve been working on soon.

Back to the willingness to take risks, that’s been my ticket to success. Trust your intuition and if you feel like its the right move, make it. I have only gotten to this point in my career because I have been willing to take risks. It has certainly not been easy and very hard at times, in fact. However, if you have a dream and you trust the process, it’s both funny and rewarding to see how the steps and risks you’ve taken have led you to where you are today – even if you couldn’t see it at the time you took the risk or made that next step.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First off, I don’t believe in itineraries. I’m a bit of a rambling man, so I go where the wind blows me.

However, creative and aesthetically-pleasing places make my heart flutter, so there would certainly be a fair amount of time spent around RiNo, Five Points, Highland, etc.

Dive bars are a must. We’d spend plenty of time in hole-in-the-wall joints all over town.

We’d have to make a stop at the Denver Art Museum, too.

I’m a bit of a foodie, but I’m going to leave out the names of my favorite places out of respect. Rest assured, they’d be on my list of places to go.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There have been plenty of people along the way that have contributed in some way, shape, or form to how far I’ve come. From family to complete strangers, I have love and appreciation for too many people to name.

If I could choose only one, I would give a shout-out to my friend Ivan Orsic. Ivan has filled many roles – friend, colleague, critic, and even my boss, at one time.

His encouragement and belief in my potential has never wavered, even when I couldn’t see it myself.

Thank you, Ivan. Love ya, brother.
