We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Renon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, what do you want people to remember about you?
My main focus of my company is improving maternal wellness. Our country’s maternal mortality rate is heartbreakingly high; I want to be part of changing that narrative. Education is empowerment. When parents are fully informed, they can confidently make birthing decisions in partnership with their care providers. Plus, Care Packages from The Labor of Love Co. encourage Mamas to practice self-care. This is vital for maternal mental and physical health.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Labor of Love Co. encompasses a couple different things: 1) We provide Care Packages for pregnant and postpartum mothers. These trimester-specific Care Packages are tailored to fit Mama’s needs during each perinatal season, and are filled with natural goodies to be sure both Mama and Baby are nourished. These make great baby shower gifts, push presents from Partner to Mama, or just gifts for yourself! 2) The Labor of Love Co. provides Childbirth Education to help parents gain the information they need to confidently make birthing decisions in partnership with their care provider. No matter what type of birth you’re having, I want your birth to be amazing. Using the Birth Boot Camp curriculum, we offer courses all the way from pregnancy nutrition & fitness, to labor coping, to postpartum care, and everything in between. Education is empowerment! Pregnancy, childbirth, and new motherhood are some of the most significant events in a mother’s life. The biggest lesson I have learned as a business owner is to be genuine. Serving the birthing community can lead me in all kinds of directions, but I have been most successful when I have gone down the path I desired, rather than that which appeared “easiest” or most widely accepted. It’s true what they say: the riches are in the niches!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I could plan an entire weekend with a friend visiting Colorado, we would be busy!! Obviously, you can’t experience Colorado without getting outside to enjoy our fresh air and incredible views. I’d take my friend to my favorite hike at Meyer Ranch Park. It’s close enough to the city, a nice easy hike, but holds a special place in my heart. We would also be spending a lot of time eating. My favorite restaurants are Senor Burrito on 1st & Lincoln and La Loma. Yes, they’re both Mexican restaurants because there is no better food. And that’s a fact 😉 I love spending time in Downtown Littleton. I grew up there, and love seeing how it is now flourishing. There are great restaurants, bars and shops. It’s a fun place just to hang out!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so grateful to my husband for being encouraging and uplifting as a partner. Starting my own business while working another full-time job and raising two babies under the age of 2 felt like a far-fetched dream. But my husband saw my passion, new my talent and reminded me of it daily. He pushed me to keep going and keep at it, until it actually became something. I am so blessed to be surrounded by parents and siblings who have done the same thing. They have always been excited about my successes, and participated in furthering my business. I am certainly aware of how few and far between these types of supporters are, and I’m forever grateful.
