Meet Jason Ferneau | Private Wealth Manager & Tax Mitigation Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Ferneau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The Great Financial Crisis of the late 2000s negatively affected many American families with my family being one of them. In late February 2009, during the apex of the Great Financial Crisis & subsequent stock market bottom, I read David Swensen’s book Pioneering Portfolio Management & it changed my life forever. Determined to bounce back, my mission became helping others financially bounce back from the GFC. Shortly after I established Ferneau Asset Management with the investment principles of David Swensen being the foundation of the firm.
What should our readers know about your business?
I specialize in tax mitigation strategies, alternative investments and access to late stage pre-IPO opportunities. Currently I am providing clients access to Elon Musk’s highly successful company SpaceX & his satellite internet service Starlink. These items separate me from most financial advisors as they simply don’t have access to these types of opportunities.
Starting a wealth management business is extremely difficult. Clients must trust you w/ what is arguably the most important or 2nd most important thing in their lives, their money. It was an extremely difficult challenge as I left a high paying corporate job to pursue my new mission & used our savings to finance my new journey. I am blessed to have an amazing wife who fully supported this change as she knew it was my calling. She is the true foundation of my success.
I have learned the golden handcuffs of a consistent income with all of the benefits that come with it is not as wonderful as it is cracked up to be. You must be happy and have a purpose. Finding your purpose can be difficult and once you begin can be a financial hardship. However, when you set forth to fulfill that purpose, you are blessed & fulfilled both introspectively and financially. At least that is how it was for me & my journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would go have dinner at my favorite Italian Ristorante Lo Stella. Their food is amazing and recipes go back generations. They only have 2 locations with the other being on the ocean in Portofino, Italy. This place is legit.
Aside from Lo Stella, I don’t think there is anything better than my wife Shelley’s Kitchen. I would hit Marczyk’s on Colfax and pick up some usda prime beef & grab an amazing bottle of red at Argonaut just down the street on Colfax.
For coffee to jump start our day we would definitely hit Corvus Coffee on Broadway daily. The place is so good and the pastries are next level. For me, I am at the office often 12 hours a day so there is nothing in Denver better than my home, my wife’s culinary skills & a great bottle of red wine.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
100%. The book is Pioneering Portfolio Management by the late David F Swenson

Other: I am adding all of the above next week. I would love the opportunity to provide this later. My new marketing team is putting it together.
