Meet Misty Roth | Interior Designer & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Roth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been an artist in some form, my entire life. Drawing & dancing through high school & college, I have been a dancer, make-up artist, muralist and painter, jewelry designer and fashion merchandiser. Currently I am the Director of Marketing for a restaurant group while happily persuming my passion of designing interiors . Hopefully in the very near future I will be designing full time. I learned long ago that I need to have a creative career to be my best self.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began painting in the evenings and on the weekends when my chidren were little and friends & family would ask me to paint for them. I created custom paintings and nursery murals for a small in town childrens boutique while my children were in school. After a divorce with 3 small children at home I had to get a more “reasonable” job to support us and went back to retail sales & merchandising in 2011. Definately not the ideal career for creativity but necessary for my family. After 7 years in there and creating on the side COVID hit and it was the perfect opportunity to finally leave corporate retail. I looked for something completely different and took a postion for an event/marketing coordinator while taking custom design projects by referral on the side. This is where I am currently but have been spending more and more hours in the evenings & on weekends taking larger and more custom projects. I have never been afraid to try something new and use my skills aquired to build something better and more fulfilling for where I am at in my life. It has definately not been easy but I am always trying to move forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I will be honest that I do not know enough about Colorado! My husband was born in Denver but moved to Texas where I grew up in about the 5th grade. I’ve had numerous ski trips throughout my life but unfortunately have never lived there! Last year one of my lifelong best friends called and asked me to join her on a new potential project. We had our very first winter trip to Lake City, Co in January 2023 (not fully understanding Colorado winters) to look at the property. We signed up for the challenge and I agreed to help her redesign the Alpine Village Cabins that have been available for summer vacations for generations. Two Texas girls renewing a lovely life long tradition for families to spend summers in Lake City, Colorado.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where I am in my life is 100% based on a tragic event that changed me forever. I lost my 4 1/2 yr old some Xander in the summer if 2012. At that time I had a career in high end fashion sales & merchandising. I began advocating and speaking about Drowning Prevention the very next summer not knowing how to handle or channel my grief. It has taken me many years to find myself and what would keep my spirit alive even when I didn’t want to be. My two older girls needed me and my son would want me to continue for him. Designing keeps my inside fire burning along with keeping my sons name & story alive. Every summer I speak to parents that bring their children to drowning prevetion lessons throughout Ft. Worth. I also advocate for organ donation through Life Gift Organ Donation of Texas. My son was a hero in many ways and even when it feels too hard I know he would want me to be happy, I promised to keep his name alive the best I could and find what fulfills me.
