We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Fisher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say the most important factor about success, is taking a chance. Trying something you’ve never done. Customer service is a huge factor in success. I didn’t plan on Fisher Botanicals LLC to become a business in all reality. It grew into a business, by giving people a good price, and a quality product. I started selling kratom/ other natural alternatives to harsh medicines, like pain pills. Kratom took to the market rather quickly. In 2016 we were facing a ban on kratom nationwide. Our customers and the community took action. We had people go to the white-house and fought against the FDA, DEA, etc. After the outcry of everyone that new kratom, and other natural alternatives are safe, and should be here to stay. We won that battle, after the DEA opened a comment section on their website. People were pouring in stating that kratom is safe and okay. We believe that the medical system is broken, and medicine has only been around for a couple hundred years, compared to plant medicine that has been around since the beginning of time. Logos, websites, advertising, is what you need to start a good business. Something that the people want/need to live a normal life. Always start small and make your way up. The brand Fisher Botanicals LLC, started in 2015. I had a artist draw up a logo and we went back and forth, making our logo stand out. From there I quit my job working at utilities for the electric company. I was making more money than i ever had working for someone else. It feels good to be able to make your own schedule, and having happy employees. Good employees makes a company what it is. Also all of our awesome customers.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Fisher Botanical LLC dba Fisher Tea CO. What sets us apart from other companies. We import directly from the source, unlike a lot of companies selling 2nd or 3rd hand. Ive been to Indonesia, talked with the farmers. Visited their homes, had business meetings. We were on the ground where kratom grows. Where it all begins. We saw everything. 24 hour flight was miserable, but once we were there it was an amazing country. The people are very friendly. When i was in Pontianak, Indonesia, most people have never seen Americans, so they all wanted pictures with us. We have also had challenges with importing. Kratom is legal, but there is an import alert on it. So, they can take it if they want. Which can be challenging. Money loss, when that happens. We just keep going and make up for lost revenue from the United State Government. I think this is something that needs to go away. Importing should be a easy process but it isn’t always. Kava, is directly imported from Hawaii. No middle man. CBD / hemp flower comes from Colorado Farms. All other herbs are imported from other countries, including Egypt. We used to sell worldwide, but we are now focused on our retail customers in the U.S.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are going to come to Salida, co. I’d recommend hitting Monarch Mountain if you are a skier, or snowboarder. Its all 100% natural snow. If you are in town, visit main street downtown where they have stores/shopping for everyone. You can also checkout all the 14ers. We have the most out of any county in Colorado. S mountain is a great place to take your bicycle, and ride up and down the trails. One of my favorite places is Mt. Princeton hot springs. That place is magical. pools, or you can even sit in the river. Natural hot springs are great. We could go have lunch at Mo-burrito, and dinner on the river at boathouse cantina. Maybe we should raft the river or go fishing on the Arkansas river. Gold metal trout fishing. Or take our motorcycles and hit greens creek. Take the truck out and do some camping, and 4×4 trails. Lets go listen to music in the park on the river. Take a nice little hike. Whats funny, is you can do all of this in the same day. Snowboard, ride bicycles, go to the hot springs, and relax after a nice vacation. The views are amazing, so are the people in our town. We are relaxed and have a hippy vibe going on.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my wife Joanna Fisher, for taking care of the books, Our employees, and the support of my family. My son Trey Fisher, my daughter, Khloe Fisher. Also, all of our customers who helped make this happen. I thank every one of you. My family is everything to me. This is all for you guys. I thank all the farmers in Indonesia that I’ve worked with. All the suppliers for harvesting plant medicine. Whether its kratom, hemp, kava, or other alternatives. I want to thank all the other companies for helping out when we need it. I also thank myself, for taking a chance on life, and being able to do things my way. I always said, I can do that better than that company, and the proof is in the pudding. LOVE TO ALL. I also thank the legal system for recognizing that plant medicine is here to stay. Governor Polis for recognizing kratom in Colorado. We are always taking chances. Next we plan on opening a kava/kratom bar in the rocky’s.
