We had the good fortune of connecting with George San Miguel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi George, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Both parents born in Juarez, Mexico and their drive and work ethic has made me who i am today. They taught me to be respectful of what i had at the moment, but that it was okay to want more, as long as i worked for it!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been in the hospitality industry since 2001 after the Advertising Company I was with closed abruptly. Started off in room service as a quick employment opportunity – and luckily was making a ton of money, and then i was lured into management roles. Over the last two decades I have worked for several different hotel chains, private casino resorts, and then covid hit.
I was furloughed, then laid off from my Director of Catering position with the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, NM.
I ended up working for a friend who had two large sports bars, and began handling events at both of them.
What sets me apart from others is the passion, and love that I bring to the table. I truly LOVE what I do, and Josh Schmitz saw that when he met me in Albuquerque. He told me about all the projects that were forthcoming for the Handsome Boys Hospitality Portfolio – and i was intrigued. We stayed in touch, and I then interviewed with his business partner Matthew Haberman, and I came to work for them on April 1st, 2023. We opened the Market Street Concepts on April 6th, and have been busy ever since!! I absolute love Denver, and feel I have made quite the impact in my short time here. I am looking forward to all the things to come for our company.
We lead with fun, love, and a true sense of hospitality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I just moved to Sloans Lake, and I LOVE the area. So would definitely hang out at Lakeview Lounge. Love me a good dive bar, and you can’t beat the service AND view.
Working downtown, I can proudly say that I would treat ANY family member to our delicious food that we have at our various concepts.
Have to go to Golden for sure! dip our feet in the water, enjoy the small town vibes, and great bars.
You can never go wrong with Rino District – in particular Denver Central Market.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am incredibly grateful to Josh Schmitz and Matthew Haberman from Handsome Boys Hospitality for providing me with the opportunity to lead their team. Josh headhunted me back in February of this year and i flew down to look at the Market Street concept spaces and then moved up here on March 31st.
