We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Grace Dack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi Grace, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was kind of inevitable after my husband joined the military. I used to work on ranches and absolutely loved the lifestyle, so I knew that I needed to share a piece of the ranch and western style with the world and that’s how Unicorn of the West was started.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Unicorn of the West is owned and operated by Heidi Grace Dack. I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, longing for the life on a ranch out West. After being able to fulfill that dream later on in life,  I fell in love with the lifestyle even more. My passion for the West and what it stands for is the reason I started this company. I want to instill the qualities of the ranch in my products… resilience, courage, beauty, and uniqueness. I started a Western hat company and mobile hat bar after my husband joined the military. I was pondering what I was going to do for work since we were going to be living in the city and most all of my work experience was ranching. So, I thought, how can I bring my love for the ranch wherever we go? And that’s when I decided to start a hat business!
I also wanted to prove that the West and ranch lifestyle can be for everyone! You can be a part of the Western culture and ranch life even if you didn’t grow up on one.
I desire my products to be high quality but also accessible. The hats are my canvas and I do all the art work by hand.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would of course take my friends to the place where it all started, where my love for the ranch lifestyle and the West started, Tarryall River Ranch in Lake George, Colorado. I would take them on the all day trail ride where we roam through the Aspen groves, lope through the hills, eat a packed lunch on the river, and then go swimming in the river, ride back to the ranch and then go square dancing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I credit my success to God, the Creator and the one who has given me this talent. I also credit my husband who continually encourages and supports me. And to my family who always believed I could do this.
