Meet Nick Schossow | Real Estate Broker Associate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Schossow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I got my feet wet with a friend during the summers of my college years of starting a business. That business was the stepping stone to staring my own businesses in the home service industry while living in Arizona. The 2008 recession was what started me on that path due to the job market for young adults entering the professional field during that time. I was able to successfully sell my service business in the pool industry which led me to going into the family business of real estate starting in 2015.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My real estate career (going on my 10th year) has been full of countless twists and turns. You really never know what is coming around the next corner… Which is the real beauty of real estate and what makes is the most pure form of entrepreneurialism. My dad says quite often, “we wake up unemployed everyday” and at first I thought that was some old school realtor line, but it is so so true. This career requires creativity, professionalism, problem solving that has nothing to do with real estate, and courage to truly be responsible for the failures and the successes. The biggest lesson I’ve learned to date is when a substantial change to our business model occurred early in 2020. A builder program that Dale had built essentially imploded overnight and the avenues to our long term success were drastically changed. We went to work and had to recreate our model, fortify relationships, say goodbye to others, and recreate the Schossow Group brand that people trust today. Oddly, shortly after that, Covid hit and the real estate world was flipped upside down which gave us a short time to sharpen up and get ready for the wild ride that ensued during and post Covid. These challenges never seem to end, but the effort is worth it, the cause is worth it, and the longstanding relationships formed bring everything together.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a proud Denver native and avid fan of our sports teams, it would have to involve a trip to see one of the Denver professional sports teams play. It is really hard to beat a summer evening at Coors Field with a Colorado sunset in the background. There are really so many great things about the Denver Metro Area, but a few of our favorite spots are St. Paddy’s day at Q’s pub, Downtown Littleton, Downtown Castle Rock, and Downtown Golden are always great places to check out as well and you may as well take a Coors Brewery tour if you are in Golden.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First would be my wife Belinda who encouraged me to pursue the entrepreneurial path. I experienced years of uphill battles due to the nature of my first business venture and the economic climate beginning in 2007. She always encouraged me through the countless “no’s” I received and what seemed like an endless road of “we’re not in a position to hire you for your services at this time.” After I was able to sell that first service business in 2010 for a whopping $15K, I entered into another venture that I identified to be more stable and sustainable in the Phoenix metro market… Pool Service and Repair!! Again, I faced an uphill battle in 2010 with the economy, my wife Belinda encouraged and told anyone she could about my new venture. That was a much more successful exit when I sold that business in 2015 prior to entering the family business of real estate. Here, I owe Dale (my dad) and April (my sister) all the credit for taking me under their wing while shaking off the 2008 real estate crash and beginning to gain new momentum. Far different than my service industry roots, Dale allowed me a front row seat to the rebuilding of a high-end development in Littleton where he had been a part of the sales side since 2005. I learned invaluable real estate lessons that rocketed my career path far quicker than I could have imagined. His efforts laid the ground work for the beginning of my real estate career.
