Meet Deb Brallier | Tarot Reader, Psychic, Intuitive

We had the good fortune of connecting with Deb Brallier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deb, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This is how I got into reading tarot cards. I would go to the Psychic Fairs and have my Tarot cards read. I was probably about 28 years old and went to a fair. At this time, I had a great job, I had just bought my first house, I had a wonderful boyfriend and a running car. Everything was going great for me. I go to the first tarot reader at the fair. She reads my cards and the card that comes up in the middle pile is the 5 of pentacles. She proceeds to tell me that I am going to lose some money. Now remember everything is going great for me. I think she is nuts and that this will not come true. I pay her and move to another Tarot reader. The exact same card come up – the 5 of pentacles and she tells me the exact same thing. That I am going to lose some money. I leave the fair thinking that this is craziness and go home. Well, two weeks later my house is robbed. You do not have much at 28, a Television set, some jewelry, but now I am thinking there is something to this Tarot card reading. I started taking classes and reading books about it. Eventually I got proficient enough that I did start my own tarot card reading business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This is how I got into reading tarot cards. I would go to the Psychic Fairs and have my Tarot cards read. I was probably about 28 years old and went to a fair. At this time, I had a great job, I had just bought my first house, I had a wonderful boyfriend and a running car. Everything was going great for me. I go to the first tarot reader at the fair. What is one thing industry outsiders are probably unaware of?
The one thing industry outsiders do not know is that all the information for reading tarot cards comes from spirit. Spirit knows before the client sits down what is the best information to impart to them. I receive the information from spirit, many different ways, but mostly through either knowing, hearing, or pictures.
I cannot necessarily read your thoughts. Or know the lottery numbers. If I could tell you the lottery numbers, I would already be rich.
The messages that usually come through are positive messages on how to improve your life or things you need to work on within yourself. An example might be setting boundaries with people that take advantage of you.
Tarot readers are not 100% right all the time. I provide guidance, just like a doctor or investment advisor would provide guidance. Doctors and investment advisors are not right 100% of the time and psychics are not right 100% of the time.
Risk taking: How do you think about risk. What role has taking risks played in your life/career?
I am averse to taking risks. In some ways I took a risk by opening a business where I read tarot cards. I am still guarded about approaching the subject with some people.
Luckily, I have had good teachers and they have guided me on when and how to approach people with the information that I am a tarot card reader.
Other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
In general tarot readers have been given a bad reputation because of a few bad apples, I am very careful to be up front with all my clients. They know what they are going to pay before they get to the reading. I do not use bait and switch tactics once they get into the reading to make more money. I am upfront and honest with each of my clients.
What is the most important factor behind your success/ the success of your brand?
What’s the most difficult decision you have ever had to make?
I do not know if this is the most difficult decision, but sometimes when people come to me for a reading, it is not the right fit or they are shut down energetically. After trying to obtain information for them, sometimes it is best to send them to another reader. In these cases, I do not charge them.
Work life balance how has your balance changed over time? How do you think about the balance?
Before my tarot reading career, I worked in the corporate world. There you are at the whim of the boss or company. I was always trying to please everyone else except for myself. May long hours of working, nights and weekends, to please others and only to get a 2% or 3% raise.
When you have your own business, you have a lot of flexibility. You can decide when and where you want to work. Not that I am not a hard worker, but I am more selective in when I work.
Do you have a favorite quote or affirmation? What does it mean to you/what do you like about it?
“Nothing changes, if nothing changes”
I can give all the good advice in the world, but if you do not act on it nothing will change. Many people come to me asking about a romantic partner and when will they appear. Well, if all you do is sit in front of the TV at night and eat ice cream, they will never come to you. You must try to look for them. Join a club, go to a lecture, do something to get yourself out of the house and mingling to find the right partner.
Why did you pursue and artist or creative career?
I started my tarot reading business because I was curious.
What do you want your legacy to be? What do you want people to remember about you?
I would like people to think that when they had no hope, I gave them hope of a better or brighter day. Just because today is awful and they cannot see the end of their problems or the turmoil, I let them know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to Rocky Mountain National Park. Make sure you make a reservation on the website.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
