We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Anglin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being creative has always been something that I’ve had in me. I don’t know that I thought much about that reality until these last few years. A lot of people are creative. It’s not terribly unique in and of it’s self. As I’ve gotten older I think I’ve just paid more attention to the kinds of things that energize me and help me feel healthy. Sitting alone for long stretches and making my paintings has been the outflow of that processing. It’s not easy work if you don’t have a genuine love for it. I’m not just talking about passion. I mean, it has to give you something back, that you didn’t have before. I has to in some way be a source of life and energy and vitality. I don’t think this is for everyone.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a landscape painter who connects synthetic and natural forms in harmony. I use vibrant color-field compositions overlaying western landscapes and interwoven perspective lines to move the viewer between worlds. The hope of my work is to bring the viewer into a renewed sense of all of life’s fullness. The synthetic forms are a way to communicate inorganic realities. You might think of these things as distractions or noise. It’s not meant to say that these things are bad, it’s just that they exist. They can interfere with our desire to be more grounded or connected to nature. I like thinking of them as these fun moments that make the world more full. But, there is an inherent dark side to distraction as well. My work is less about that. My work is for someone who likes traditional landscapes, but doesn’t mind a more modern perspective on what is possible for that genre. I love pop art and color-field abstract work. I think that comes through in my paintings.

Right now, I’m most excited about the upcoming Cherry Creek Arts Festival. It’s takes place every summer in Cherry Creek north. The show is fairly exclusive and I got in as part of their “Emerging Artists” grant program. It all feels pretty unexpected and I’m honored to get to show alongside so many other amazing artists. All my efforts are aimed at making work for that show and some other upcoming summer shows. The whole world of art festivals has been something I’m excited to learn more about this year. I’m just now getting a feel for it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my wife, Erin Anglin. At the end of 2022, I was feeling pretty depressed, and the only resolution I could think up was to get back into painting. I think it was just me grasping for some kind of way to pull myself out of my funk. It was just a passion project that turned into a real deal once people started reaching out and asking for work. My wife encouraged me in this pursuit and made space in our life for me to dive in head first. I’m thankful for here encouragement in it. I don’t think I would have made the commitment without her.
