We had the good fortune of connecting with Glenda Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Glenda, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite affirmation is “Go with the flow.” While it might sound simple, this principle has been a guiding force in my life and art for many years. Life often presents situations where you have to adapt and follow the natural course rather than resisting it. This philosophy extends to my artwork as well.

I rarely plan what I want to paint in advance. Instead, I follow my intuition and the universe’s direction. If I feel inspired to paint animals, I’ll start by browsing animal photographs. Sometimes, a particular image will captivate me, sparking a creative idea. I often begin by playing with paint or using leftover colors, letting shapes and forms emerge organically. From there, I’ll find the references that bring the piece to life.

Although “Go with the flow” may seem like a passive approach, it’s actually about harnessing the strength of the current. When you align with the natural rhythm, you gain momentum and power. Fighting against it often leads to unnecessary struggle, but flowing with it allows for a more harmonious and creative process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets my work apart is its diversity and depth, combined with a deeply intuitive and personal creative process. My journey as an artist has been marked by continuous experimentation, dedication, and a willingness to embrace new challenges.

I primarily work with acrylics, but my passion for experimentation extends to a wide variety of mediums. From charcoal and colored pencils to pastels and alcohol/acrylic inks, I enjoy exploring the possibilities each medium offers. Additionally, I use various tools and techniques to infuse my artwork with depth and texture. Whether it’s using modeling paste, spray paints, glossing gels, stencils, or unconventional items like bubble wrap and scrapbooks, I aim to add layers of complexity to my pieces, providing viewers with a rich visual experience.

Reflecting on my artistic journey, I take immense pride in how far I’ve come, especially considering my non-artistic background. Each artwork represents a new chapter in my evolution as an artist, a testament to my dedication and growth. My work is ever-changing; no two pieces are alike. I approach each painting with an intuitive mindset, allowing my emotions to guide the creative process. This deeply personal approach ensures that every artwork is a unique expression of my intimate thoughts and feelings.

Reaching where I am today was not easy. Overcoming challenges required persistence and a constant willingness to learn and adapt. The lessons I’ve learned along the way include the importance of resilience, the value of continuous learning, and the power of staying true to one’s creative vision.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my art is a journey of self-discovery and expression. Each piece is a reflection of my personal experiences and emotions, crafted with a passion for experimentation and a dedication to creating unique, meaningful art.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While my journey as an artist has been largely self-taught, I’ve been fortunate to have numerous sources of support and inspiration. From libraries and online platforms to art communities and loved ones, each has played a vital role in my development.

Since I do not have an art background from school, becoming an artist has been challenging. Surrounding myself with art was essential. Libraries became a sanctuary for knowledge, offering a wealth of art books and theories to study. Additionally, YouTube provided practical guidance, allowing me to watch and learn techniques in real time. This combination of theory and practice helped me to hone my skills and adapt them over time.

Art communities have also been invaluable, providing support and assistance whenever I encountered difficulties. However, the most significant source of support has been my husband. His unwavering belief in my abilities and his honest critiques have pushed me to improve continuously. My family and friends, too, have been a pillar of encouragement. Their support, particularly when they purchase my art, validates my efforts and makes me feel that my work is truly valued.

In summary, my artistic journey has been enriched by various sources of knowledge, supportive communities, and the unwavering encouragement of my loved ones. Their collective influence has shaped me into the artist I am today.
