Meet Becky Koski | Macaron Baker & RN

We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Koski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Over the years I have done a few MLM (multi-level marketing) type businesses but I never loved someone else making decisions for what my business should look like. I have always loved to bake, I even used to pretend I was hosting my own baking show when I was little. When 2020 & COVID hit I found myself with some extra time on my hands & I started seeing a few people make macarons. I had honestly never had one until 3 months before I started my own macaron baking journey. My husband encouraged me to try to sell them & shortly after BK Bakes came to fruition. I loved that I could bake between my shifts at the hospital & it gave me just enough of a creative outlet. Calling my own shots & saying yes or no on my terms is such an amazing feeling. Also let’s be real, I LOVE getting messages from customers when they are thrilled with their orders. Bringing joy to people through baking is why I do this.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I went to school to become a nurse. I LOVE my job at our local hospital where I get to take care of brand new babies & their moms. It brings me such joy. Only working 2 shifts a week has given me the opportunity to have BK Bakes running strong. I bake on my off days & have an online community that is so supportive. I think truly having the mindset of “community over competition” is what has helped me be successful. Also if you ever want to be humbled, just try your hand at making macarons! My first batch was absolutely awful, but I stuck with it & I really believe practice makes progress. I think my macarons are far from perfect, but they are made with love & taste delicious! That I can promise! I have definitely taken on too many orders some weeks or overextended myself while trying to grow by business. But in the last 4 years I feel like I have found a good balance of work & home life, between all my jobs 😉 and I love it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh gosh ok so even though I was born & raised in Colorado I am the worst person to ask. I would probably take them to downtown Windsor & go in the cute little shops here. We could walk around Windsor Lake that’s always beautiful. If I was taking them out of my town I would take them to Fort Collins or Boulder, or even Rocky Mountain National Park. All those places have such fond memories for me. And as for food, I am easy. Take me ANYWHERE out to eat (small, local places preferably) & I am happy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Instagram & the internet gets such a bad reputation these days but honestly I started posting my baking online & I found an AMAZING community of bakers around the world on Instagram! I learned so many tips & tricks from these men & women, & they have become true friends over the last 4 years. My husband has always been such a huge support & I am so grateful for that. Him & my daughter love to be my taste testers.
