We had the good fortune of connecting with Naaman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naaman, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Being a Music Artist starts with taking risk. Taking risk has been the biggest theme for me as an upcoming artist, from booking my first studio session at 16, to getting on stage and performing for the first time, it’s all about risk. For me, that is the thrill in creativity, you never really know how people will interpret your art so taking these risk always can either be really good or really bad & from experience 9/10 they are always rewarding afterwards. I feel like I’ve always been rebellious and very risk taking my whole life between my fashion, music and personality, I tend to live on the edge at times and that translates to me taking the risk I do in my music, fashion and creativity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To me, My art is telling the story of my life through sound, visuals, and feeling. I have gotten to the place i am with my Music currently by being myself and authentic. It was never easy being that I am a black man and people have set ideas on who I am or who I should be, so my authenticity is what really propelled me to where I am at right now & I have to remind myself of that often because I remember that I’m creating a brand and name for myself that people are starting & beginning to recognize while I am just simply being myself. I feel like as artist we go through so much and it’s not always easy to overcome but that is were the magic happens. I look at challenges that arise in my life as inspiration for my art because it teaches me about who I am even more and what I’m capable of. By the end of any challenges, you always learn how strong you really are and that fuels my fire as a creative.
Along the way I’ve learned to really never doubt yourself, we live in such a small world and you never know who is watching so always be you! Love who you are and love what you do and it will all start to make sense. If there is something I want to the world to know or take away from my story, it’s that no matter who you are or how unimportant you may feel, if you are a star there is no way you’re not gonna shine. It’s about finding what makes you really glow and who sees your light & as long as you know who you are and what your destiny is, nothing is in your way and anything becomes possible when you believe in you!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lookout mountain because it’s such a beautiful sight seeing spot but mainly at night!
Downtown Denver because you’ll never be bored. Never a dull moment down there.
Casa Bonita because why not!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. I thank my family for always understanding my passion for music as I was growing up and making the efforts so I know my dreams are possible and can come true. Music was always in my house growing up but I am the first the get on a stage and actually create my own so they give me that extra drive to make them proud and give back to my family.
Secondly, as weird as it may sound, Beyoncé. I thank her so much for creating spaces for artist like me to be free. Ever since a kid Beyoncé and Horses have always been things I was very passionate about and lately. The music she has been creating more recently has been very important to me as it shines light on artist who don’t always have that stage & coming from Colorado, our music scene is constantly developing so hearing artist like her create House and Country/Western music opens so many doors of possibilities for upcoming artist like me.
