We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Guzman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luis, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve made was to leave my comfortable 9 to 5 job to pursue my dreams of being a full time artist . The responsibility that comes with being a father and husband that provides. Putting everything on the line for a chance to make it in a difficult field has been really tough .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I come from a graffiti background. Lettering has always been my bread and butter but as I explored my limits as an artist I fell in love with the process. The thought of how did they paint that ? To hey I painted that ! I’ve always been a problem solver. I loved playing games like sudoku so figuring out how to fill space with art is just that. So satisfying.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
100% I would say the Rino District. There’s so much to see and explore. I’ve became friends with a lot of people down there just for the fact that I’ve painted there so much. Met business owners and people just walking around that spot me painting and want to come say hi. One of my favorite places to paint is pizza 3.14. Their pizza is amazing. Great art on the building and awesome pizza you can’t go wrong

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout out goes out to my wife for believing in me . Even in the hardest of times when it was time to give it up and go back to my 9 to 5 she believed that it would work out. My second shout outgoes to my mentor and friend think 426. A great artist that has helped me grow tremendously with his teachings. It’s been an eye opener for me. His 30 years of experience has helped me maneuver through difficult times in my growth.
