We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Pellissier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After spending the last 10 years in the corporate world, I found myself facing severe burnout. Balancing a demanding full-time job, raising two kids, and managing all of life’s other responsibilities was taking a toll on me. With the incredible support of my husband, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to step away from work for a while and focus on something I’m deeply passionate about—building my own business.
My journey began when I was pregnant with my first child and became highly conscious of what I was putting in and on my body. A friend shared a recipe for a baby balm, and I was immediately hooked. Instead of spending $15 on a small jar of diaper cream packed with chemicals and preservatives, I could create my own balm, knowing exactly what ingredients were in it. Over the years, this passion grew, and I continued making the balm for my friends and family.
Taking a step back from my corporate career gave me the chance to fully immerse myself in Golden Bloom Colorado, where I am dedicated to offering affordable, sustainable, and natural skincare. My mission is to help others embrace clean, nourishing products that they can trust.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional journey has been anything but linear—I’ve worked in roles ranging from customer support and Human Resources to management, onboarding, SaaS companies, and customer success. Along the way, I realized I had gained a wealth of knowledge helping others build their businesses, which gave me the confidence to start my own.
I’m still in the early stages of growing my business, relying on my experience, network, and the guidance of mentors to turn my vision into a recognizable local (and eventually global) brand. Starting a business is both thrilling and daunting, and while mistakes are inevitable, they’re often our greatest teachers. For example, the time I forgot to emulsify my magnesium foot balm, leading to a messy separation and spilled liquid everywhere, was a lesson I’ll never forget!
Building connections and networking has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. I make it a point to engage with local vendors at markets, join Facebook groups for businesswomen, and share samples and marketing materials with local establishments to build traction and awareness.
When it comes to my products, I take pride in crafting each one in small batches using the highest quality ingredients. But what excites me most is connecting with people and providing them with something that helps them prioritize self-care. Seeing my products make a difference in someone’s life is the most fulfilling part of my work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Table Public House is by far one my favorite hidden gems! I’m actually a vendor at their upcoming holiday market December 21! For those that don’t know The Table Public House is owned and operated by The Table Urban Farm, a local non-profit micro-farm cooperative of backyard gardens that provides healthy food access for our community. The Table Public House serves a deeper purpose of building community through spreading nourishment and grace. 100% of the proceeds from The Table Public House directly supports The Table Urban Farm.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am incredibly grateful to my friend Mel, who not only shared the initial recipe but also sparked my passion for creating my own skincare products. I owe so much to my husband as well, whose unwavering support and constant encouragement have made him my greatest cheerleader throughout this journey.
I’ve also been fortunate to build an amazing support system of inspiring local businesswomen who have guided and mentored me along the way. A special thank you to Lindsay Chavez, owner of Colorado Fitness Headquarters, and Carrie Schaffer, owner of Original Hardware, for their invaluable advice and encouragement. Their mentorship has been instrumental in helping me grow both personally and professionally.
