We had the good fortune of connecting with Missy Castaneda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Missy, how does your business help the community?
While we specialize in creating ‘fluffy’ and unique events, The Fluffy Stuff Co. is about more than just balloons; it’s about building connections and supporting our community. We’re committed to giving back by providing sponsored decorating services to local non-profits like Aspen Youth Center, Best Buddies International, and Advocate Safe House. We also cherish the relationships we’ve built with other women entrepreneurs in the Roaring Fork Valley. These ‘friendors’ (friends + vendors) are an integral part of our business, and through collaboration, we create unforgettable experiences and contribute to a thriving local economy.
What should our readers know about your business?
I never imagined I’d be a business owner, so I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built over the last two years. The Fluffy Stuff Co. is a true reflection of who I am, and I get to market it simply by being myself. We create organic balloon designs, party backdrops, and offer rentals like The Champagne Cart. We blend luxury and whimsy, offering a range of services and price points to make special occasions even more memorable. While we’re based in Glenwood Springs and service Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley, we believe everyone deserves a little extra ‘fluff’!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Glenwood Springs:
Right now since its Christmas, the best place to start is visiting the Hotel Colorado which is historical from the 1800’s. It’s annual tree lighting the day after Thankgiving kicks off the holiday season and thousands of people attend! (We created Santa meet & greet balloons for the event!) The rest of the holiday season you can tour the hotel at take in all the impeccable details they put into the hotel for Christmas.
Annie’s Bakery right across the street one of the newest and best in our little town – but the quality of their pastries is a standout in any city. Get yourself the incredible Kouign Amann with Bavarian Cream.
Take in a leisurely swim at the Iron Mountain Hot Springs, perfect for couples or families. We have an annual membership so bring our 6 and 9 year old boys often!
For dinner there’s plenty of options downtown at Bethal Plaza, but my favorite over the years has always been Juicy Luicy’s Steakhouse – I’ve celebrated so many life occasions here but their delicious menu has kept us coming back.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Huge shoutout to my incredible ‘Dream Team’: Wenonah Recio of Botanicals Floral Art and Ashley Buerger of Afternoon Delight Bakery! We support each other through the challenges of running businesses, raising kids, navigating marriage, and just everyday life—it’s essential for keeping us (mostly!) sane.
