We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikayla Chaffee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikayla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I established my photography business driven by a passion for creativity and a desire for independence. I wanted to have the freedom to capture life’s precious moments, from newborn sessions to family portraits, and even corporate events. By owning my own business, I can tailor my schedule to balance work and personal life. Ultimately, my goal is to deliver stunning, high-quality images that will be cherished for generations. I believe that everyone deserves beautiful photographs, and I’m committed to providing an exceptional experience at a price that’s accessible to all.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting a photography business in a saturated market presented unique challenges. The intense competition can make it difficult to stand out and attract clients. To overcome this hurdle, I’ve positioned myself as an affordable alternative to higher-priced photographers. By offering high-quality services at competitive rates, I’ve been able to attract a diverse clientele who appreciate the value I provide. Additionally, I’ve focused on building strong relationships with my clients, providing exceptional customer service, and consistently delivering stunning images.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start of day 1 taking them to breakfast at Garden of the Gods Cafe, the Fried Chicken and Waffles with Torn Potatoes are TO DIE FOR. After breakfast, a short drive to Garden of the Gods, taking in the scenery of the red rocks, pikes peak, and the wild big horn sheep. Finishing the day in Old Colorado City and Manitou springs. The rest of the week, I would go to Cripple Creek/Victor, Golden (of course drinking a local Coors), Boulder, Black Hawk, and catching a game in Denver. If we can, getting a reservation at Casa Bonita for the experience is a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband (Bradley) has been my unwavering supporter throughout my journey to starting my photography business. His encouragement and belief in my abilities have pushed me to take the leap and pursue my passion. He has been instrumental in helping me refine my business plan, offering technical advice, and assisting with behind-the-scenes tasks. His support has given me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and pursue my dreams.
