Meet Vic Sarkisian | Visual Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vic Sarkisian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vic, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I had a professor in graduate school remind me often that sometimes the most challenging part of the creative process is simply starting. It can feel overwhelming and daunting to see that blank canvas, empty artboard or vacant page sitting in front of us. We begin to ruminate over questions like… where will this project end up? Will it be groundbreaking or uninteresting? Is it even worth my time? But the minute I put pen to paper, so to speak, the rest seems to fall into place. So the best habit I’ve learned and admittedly, have to often times remind myself of, is to simply start.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Here are a handful of ideas I’ve collected from creatives over the years. These impressions will always continue to challenge, motivate and influence me as a visual designer: “The shaping of the question is part of the answer” -Daniel Eatock // “Give yourself permission to make anything.” -Kate Bingaman-Burt // “Design is the act of configuring puzzle pieces to communicate an idea in a way that is both logical and beautiful. Essentially, creating order out of disorder.” -Beth Abrahamson // “There is joy in the intense, harmonic, ragged, mysterious, teetering, messiness of all things that stop and start – merge and part – clash and concede.” -Martin Venezky //

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Meek Vintage for second-hand finds; Leven Deli for deli classics; esp for music + cocktails; Alto Gallery for local contemporary art; Cart-Driver for pizza + oysters.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My two older sisters have carried me through many challenges. They have not only encouraged me in the creative process, but have been active and fun collaborators along the way. Both are artists, educators, mentors and curious creatives themselves. They have always moved me to ask questions and work to understand difficult things through creative mediums.
